2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 Doppelganger (1383) - Dry County, Arkansas, USA - FEB 20, 2008
Cask, Gardener’s Arms Plantation Road, Oxford RB Crawl. Dark brown, bit of dirty white head. Winey, farmy aroma with a little sour chocolate. Smokey chocolate sweetness, no roast texture, and not much else to recommend it.
2.4 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 SilkTork (4738) - Rochester, Kent, United Kingdom, WALES - FEB 16, 2008
Gardeners Arms, Plantation Road, Oxford. A dark amber bitter of little character or charm. No roast malt qualities detectable. The colour would likely come from crystal malt or even a touch of caramel. There’s an interesting suggestion of coal smoke, but that could be wishful thinking. Not good. And certainly not a porter or a stout.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Fin (5749) - Merton, Oxfordshire, England, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - FEB 14, 2008
Cask conditioned at The Gardeners Arms, Plantation Road, Oxford on the Ratebeerian day around Oxford 09-02-08 Poured dark brown with some hops both on the nose and in the mouth, the caramel lingers maybe a bit too much, some sourness, interesting but nothing special.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 harrisoni (10070) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - FEB 11, 2008
Cask handpull, Gardener’s Arms, Plantation Road, Oxford, RB Pub crawl 08. Bit of sourness on aroma. Bit of malt in mouth, toffee maybe, soft hop dryness on finish. Dull, but drinkable porter.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 imdownthepub (7494) - Banbury, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - FEB 10, 2008
Cask conditioned at The Gardeners Arms (Plantation Row), Oxford Ratebeerian day. Dark brown with white head. Particularly sweet for a Porter, most agreed that this definitely wasn’t a true Porter. Some fleshy fruitiness and a light herbal note, but largely oversweet. Pretty average.
