Marston’s has launched Revisionist – a new series of beers that aims to show case the brewer’s five regional breweries, beginning with a lager from Wolverhampton. Revisionist Craft Lager has been created at its Park Brewery location and the man behind the beer, Simon Yates, has worked to blend an old world continental style while bringing in elements of new world hops. The beer, which is the brand’s first keg lager in 30 years, has used lager malt, a mixture of German Hallertau Magnum, Tradition, and Slovenian Styrian hops, as well as dry British Admiral and Boadicea hops. The end result is a refreshing four per cent session beer that has elements of citrus orange marmalade. With its Revisionist series, Marston’s has given its brewers the opportunity to rework classic styles with their unique ideas, while also using more contemporary ingredients and techniques.

Half pint på John Baird, Muswell Hill (London): en overraskende frisk, smakfull og fyldig lager med gode toner av appelsin(marmelade), clementiner og mandariner i både smak og aroma. Riktig velsmakende og mye drikkeglede i bare 4%.

Keg at Counting House, Glasgow - clear golden, thin off-white head, sweet lager malty, fruity aroma, non-existent lacing, bit of marmalade on the flavour, fruity, sweet, high carbonation, I would like to try this on cask

Keg in The Kings Arms in Berkhamsted. Clear golden amber, white foam head. Nose is sweet, biscuit malt, grass and straw, white bread, citrous, lager yeast. Taste is sweet, barley, biscuity malt, grassy staw, bit of citrous peel, dry lager yeast. It’s a couple of notches up from a macro lager but sweeter and slightly grassier.

Sampled on tap at the John Baird. Surprising full and fruity lager with hints of Seville Orange marmalade and tangerines. Very good body with excellent mouthfeel. A very refreshing and original lager.

Keg, Bulls Head, Youlgreave. Pale gold with carbonation. Aromas are cereal grain with crisp lemon and some nuttiness. Toasted with hints of mandarin. Flavours are grainy malts with a nutty lager like character. Lemon with dusty, peppery carbonation. It’s only keg but I quite liked it.

Keg at Henry’s Green Park. Bright golden colour with a creamy steady white head. Fine carbonated look. Light citric nose and subtle hoppy flavour. For a lager very enjoyable.

Keg at Wetherspoons (under Central Library), Birmingham. Thought I’d rated this ages ago. Quite pleasant sweet lager. Lacks a bit of lagery hop bite, but it’s ok.

On tap at Lords, watching a splendid day’s cricket against New Zealand. Looks like a lager, bright clear and golden. Actually not bad, so many of these ’modern craft lagers’ turn out be be lacking either in terms of clean fermentation or simple flavour, but I actually enjoyed this, clean crisp (very cold!) with a pleasant hop finish. Does taste of something, I would order again if in the mood for a lager.

Draught @ London/punch. Appearance: pours clear amber with ok soapy white head and lacing. aroma/taste: barley, biscuit, grass and some citrus and floral notes. palette medium hoppy aroma, average carbonation, light to medium body, low to average sweetness, balanced by an average bitterness, medium duration and a watery texture. Overall: enjoyable lager.
