Revisionist Belgian Saison Beer
Bank’s brewmaster Simon Yates’ contemporary take on a Belgian farmhouse beer. French for "season", Saison delivers a pale golden beer, fruity yet dry and refreshing with a herbal hol finish.

500ml Bottle. This pours a clear amber with a medium white head that lasts the distance. Its aroma is yeast, and citrus. its taste is citrusy with hints of caramel and a slightly smokey dry bitter finish that you get with Belgian yeasts. And thats a key point missed by the naming of this beer. Its a BELGAIN SAISON.. and quite frankly the best Belgian Saison Ive tasted so far outside of Belgium!

Bottle from Tesco Clare hall. Pours clearish gold. Metallic, diacethnyl, some dough on nose. Flavour is cardboard, dough, diacethnyl. I like saisons this ain’t one. A dodgy lager maybe.

Aroma: phenols, belgian notes, herbs. Appearance: golden color and white head. Taste: low bitterness, zesty and spicy, some herbal notes, dry. Palate: medium body and medium carbonation. Overall: Quite ok hopped saison, good stuff.

Bottle from Tesco, drunk at home. Light to medium gold with a fine white head. Honey, yeast, coriander, chilli and hints of leather in the nose. Bittersweet and spicy taste, with a dry and slightly acrid aftertaste. Very warming for its strength. This feels more English than Belgian but it’s still drinkable, just not overexciting. The spicy note is nice though.

Sweet taste, slightly syrupy palate. Pale colour, though not unappealing. A little sickly - doesn’t stand up to repeated drinking.

Bottle from Tesco. Pours clear golden. Nose is lime, spices, herbs. Taste is floral, herbs, sweetish malts, light lime. And lame.

Bottle at home. Slight aroma of floral hop, but not too flowery. More spicy and pine-like. Nice pale orange/blonde colour. Taste is perhaps a little too sweet, but some bitterness there. I quite like the flavour, reminds me of orange liqueurs, and the mouthfeel has that vanilla ice-cream in a wafer feel that a good Saison should have (Eg Dupont). Finish is slightly thin. I think they could have gone bigger with the hops, but for a Supermarket beer this is pretty good.

Poured a bubbly medium amber with a disappearing frothy tan head. Aroma of sweet fruit. Light to medium body, flavour is sweet berries and Belgian yeast with a bitter finish. Don’t really get the saison.

Bottle from Tesco. The Ratebeer reviews suggest a better experience than mine. First, pipe cleaner then slight milk then a beer that seems to be diluted. Nothing like any Saison I've had before. Disappointing, Simon (Banks's Brewmaster) Yates. Bland. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pretty good, more mild than many saison-style beers. Perfectly drinkable, in my opinion.
