From BA: Nov 2006. Takes it name from the ’Golden Promise’ malt, which is used 100% in the brew and by a lot of scotch producers. No head on the beer as soon as it is poured, don’t like that! The body is a pale amber colour with a shimmer of light bouncing off, from the candle which I am heating the house with. Funny, malty smell, not unpleasant, but not really beery either. Funny, malty taste, not unpleasant, but not really beery either. Taste soon goes, leaving a slight longing for another slurp, but of something else! Not the best Marston’s beer on the market, thats for sure.

4.2% gold colour with a thin head, strong smell of hops but not much taste, that is when it was very cold, as it warmed it turned out to have quite a malty taste, a nice easy to drink beer.

Warning! Early amateur rating! Crisp palate but slightly watery flavours. Mellow malt. Unremarkable and one dimensional.

Light yellow-orange color, dull and a bit cloudy. Nice head that stays all the way, turning to attractive lace. Round, fruity, malty aroma. Yeast in there as well. Nice malt taste, quite fruity, a tad sweet, but not much. A slight scotch-like flavor as well. Light, spicy, fruity, very nice blonde ale. Finish of fruit, rather dry but not too bitter at all. Good balance.

Clear-glassed 500ml bottle. Deep golden pour with a small creamy white head providing fair lacing. Nose and flavour is light butterscotch malts with a crisp citrus hop presence. Low bitterness for the style. Light bodied and quaffable. It’s OK but I’ll be sticking to Marstons Pedigree in the future.

500ml bottle. BB 19Feb10 Pours a pale copper body, not a great deal of foam. Decidedly malty aroma; golden syrup and biscuit, some spicy marmalade-y hops in there. Quite a lean body with a restrained carbonation. Slight sticky texture. Flavour is somewhat subdued compared to the aroma; plenty of biscuity malt without much sweetness, hop flavours of bitter orange and leafy herbs. Finish is moderately bitter, on the abrupt side. Unlike the whisky style of its namesake, this beer misses the mark, not particularly complex or rich, rather a bit unexciting and generic.
