3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Cask conditioned - JDW - Northampton. A chstnut coloured beer with an off-white bubbly head. The aroma is malty with a few coffee notes. The taste is nutty and dry. Some malty biscuit notes. Not bad,

3.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pint pulled at Salisbury in Covent Garden (London), a very dark brown (slightly hazy), with a thick bubbly white head. A slight malty aroma. Earthy malt flavours, slightly smoky, and smooth on the palate. Suprisingly good from Marstons.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Dark colour, choclatey malty aroma, not unlike hobgoblin, this is fruity and malty with some carbonation, once again a bit like hobgoblin, seems to me to be marstons attempt at that kind of dark beer.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Another one of the wetherspoons beer festival ales thats just average again. Aroma is malty. Taste is also malty with a little sourness in the malty taste, but sort of minimal for a 4.6% bitter.

UPDATED: NOV 24, 2006 Nov, 2005<a href=http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/52/520 & Toad Bonfire Festival. Bitter hops burnt into a roasty malt. Huge tobacco flavours and dots of chocolate and soap. Not enjoyable. Served from the pub rather than outside in the festival. [1.9]
Oct, 2006. JDW, Eastbourne. Typical Autumn Ale. Crystal malt produces a soft chocolate note with some sweetness quickly overtaken by the murky bitterness of the hops resulting in an Autumn woods flavour. OK. [2.8]

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
UPDATED: OCT 30, 2006 Oct 06 Cask conditioned @ Standing Order (JDW), Soton. Quite similar flavours to my previous sample but a much better balance. Yeast and burnt malt only faintly perceptible. Fairly pleasant toasty malts and some fruit. Slightly soapy. 2.9
Nov 05 Cask conditioned @ Giddy Bridge (JDW), Soton. Overwhelming sulphur yeast aroma. Underneath is berry fruit and dark malts. The thin body suggests an almost burnt aspect to the malt. A slightly tart bitter finish and dry body contribute to the general mismash. 2.0

On tap. This is a nice autumn brew with some caramel notes mixed nicely in the slightly malty mix. It is reddish dark in color with a medium finish. The bitterness seemed peppery to me.
