2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Small pour from a can. Thanks to Franky Boy! Clear golden with a small white head and no lacing. Aroma is of grain and is somewhat fresh. Taste is also of grain with skunky notes a light bitterness. Crisp, refreshing, drinkable and not as bad as I thought it would be. Hey, I even think I could be able to drink a whole can by myself.

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Can [500ml]. Pours a bubbly gold with a large semi-lasting fluffy off-white head. Aroma of grain, straw, vegetal notes, light grassy hops and some sugar. Watery flavour of grain, straw and very light grassy hops. Nothing foul or off in the flavour but there isn’t much flavour at all. Light to average bodied. Like I said, inoffensive but quite dull as well.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
UPDATED: DEC 30, 2013 Can. Clear pale gold pour with a white head. Grain and pale malts - not interesting but not gross either. Good for what it is.

2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20

2 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Green plastic bottle holding 50 cl (16.9 fluid ounces), screw-top, best before mid December 2007, drank 1st November 2007.
Poured into one of my Veltin Pilsner glasses ( 20cl size) three times.
All pilsners should be a clear golden yellow in colour, some are really pale, some darker, this is midway between and looked fine. A good white head, which did sink a little fast, to leave a thin covering above the beer which had a steedy stream of bubbles slowly meandering up the body towards the head.
Can you smell dry hops and dry yeast? Well most likely not, in a beer anyway. That is what hit my nose. I normally give pilsners a 3 for aroma because I rarely smell anything, but I can smell this one and it isn’t to my likeing.
The dryness carries on into the taste, again not really to my likeing, it is not refreshing or as clean tasting as a German pilsner and lacks the fizz of an Italian Med Lager. It sits between the two and fails to excite me at all. Strangely, the bigger the mouthful the more I liked it, a supping beer it isn’t, but a throwing or quaffing beer maybe. Trouble is a don’t quaff or throw beer down my throat anymore, I like to supp and savour the taste.

2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
500ml can. Pale yellow body, small white head. Aroma of grains, wet cardboard, cooked vegetable, herbs, a tad metallic. Tastes a little better and drier: grains, some grassy hops, mineral tones. I definitely had worse than this one.

1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20
A golden lager with a thick frothy lacing off white head. In aroma, grainy malt with light German hops, light sulfur. In mouth, a boring grainy malt with soapy qualities, faint corn and hops, so-so.

1.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 6/20
Colour is a rich gold with a rocky white head. Actually kind of nice looking. No lace though - foam slides like soap. Aroma is a little grainy. Taste is metallic with a strange emptiness. Not good.

1.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20
Fooled again! I knew from beer swilling in the UK that Marten’s was synonymous with cheap in Belgium. On the discount rack - the green can made me believe it was the real pils (apparently not that good anyway) and not the low end lager. In fact it is neither...instead I have some ’importer order’ before me now. It’s typical yellow and has overly dramatic foam head. The smell is straw, hay, and sugar. It is really sweet, like the sweetness of a coffee stout but with everything else taken out. Not much for hops. Still more like a German pils than a conventional lager...but a bad one.
