Marthas Old Dunstable Amber

COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Formerly known as Back In Business Amber ale, this new (or, er, old) version has gone through a transformation somewhat. The malt profile and alcohol level is pretty much as it always has been, but the hops used and the amounts used are all different. I felt that the beer is miles away from where it used to be and a name change was thus needed. It was and is a happy change since I never was completely satisfied with the hops used in this brew. Now I am. Welcome to the world class pairing of Saaz and Simcoe, courtesy of your truly. No ego boasting here, though. It was a combination I had never tried and I used my nose on brew day to come up with it. Good job nose, the result turned out better than I could have hoped. Pale malt, and crystal malts were the only grains involved and they provide a nice foundation for the hops. Some caramel sweetness comes through in the nose and on the palate. Northern brewer hops provide bitterness, Simcoe and its unique fruity/citrus flavor and the lovely floral and spice aroma of Saaz bring it all together. This is a medium bodied beer that will stand up to all who give it a try. It will please just about any beer drinker. Don't believe me? The head chef at Martha's, a die-hard Vodka and Mountain Dew and/or Budweiser man, tried this beer and was won over instantly. Its not often he asks me for a second taste, let alone a third, fourth or fifth. I expect all you non-Budweiser drinkers out there will find it enjoyable as well. The name is a reference to Nashua's history. Before it became a city in the mid-1800's, Nashua was known as 'Old Dunstable' and encompassed the south of the border and current Dunstable Massachusetts. I pictured the people of the colonial period enjoying an amber brew with friends and that's how I came up the name. OG: 1.056 FG: 1.013 ABV: 5.6% IBU: 32
