3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
A soft pour from the growler produces a sliver of a head that mostly forms a pale ring around the glass. The beer is a lightly hazy, pale amber / copper hue. The aroma smells of pine, tobacco, dank “herbal” notes, nutty hemp, and it has an underlying fruit character that is quite floral, has touches of peach, maybe a hint of lychee, and some watered down citrus character. The nose is fairly soft for an IPA, it doesn’t have that aggressive hop character that I love, but it is well balanced and is clearly hop dominated.
Quite light bodied up front, there is a firm bitterness throughout that gets a bit on the woody side. This has a solid caramelized malt presence that contributes notes of sweet tea, nutty brown grain notes, a soft caramelized sweetness, and a chewy, whole grain cracker presence. The crystal malts accentuate the spiciness in the hops; somewhat woody, definitely peppery, with an herbal spiciness, this is offset by a soft Hop fruit character that contributes flavors of lychee, peach concentrate, lychee, and citrus oil. I light that this is fairly light bodied, there is enough heft to carry the dominant hop character though. The carbonation is a bit on the light side, but there is still enough of a prickly carbonation that this is not noticeable as an under-carbonated beer. The dominant hop character up front is the peppery, herbal, and dank leaning flavors, though the middle and into the finish seem to lean more towards the fruit side of the hop spectrum.
The hop character here is nice, but it seems to be dialed back a notch more than I would prefer. Still this is an eminently quaffable IPA, that still scratches that hop itch.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Included in an sampler of 8 brews. Wasn’t thrilled with most of the samples this visit. This was one of the more dinkable samples but still very dissappointing..

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at the source.
Comes to the table a medium golden color with a smallish off white head that slowly dissipates. Smells of pine and citrus with a solid caramel and bready malt backbone. The flavor follows the aroma quite well. Solid caramel and bread are countered with a nice hit of grapefruit pine and resin. Medium body with a light to moderate level of carbonation and a sweet slick mouthfeel. Solid easy to drink American IPA.
