UPDATED: AUG 9, 2005 Bottle Clear amber body. Rocky off-white head. Spare lace. Aroma of weak hops. Lightly bitter flavour.

This is the original Courage brewery’s Bulldog Pale Ale which was imported into Belgium by John Martin. The hop bells add a delicate darjeeling tea flavour. Fairly restrained yet bursting with sweet flavours this is a very special pale ale. Now brewed only in Belgium exclusively by the John Martin family it has been re-named as John Martin’s Original Ale. It’s ironic that it’s only in Belgium that some of Britain’s finest ales can be experienced!

amber with large head.Highly carbonated. Tinny taste and nose

Dark blond with a medium dissappearing head. Malty aroma. Bitter malty taste.

Clear amber colour with generous light tan head - good lacing. Delicate floral nectar, hops, celery, spices and doughy yeasts. Medium body. A smooth soft but generous hoppy bitter spicey start and less bitter together with malty sweetness middle. After the initial hops burst the remainder of the palate and flavour is a bit like a lowly carbonated Brit draught ale. The more I had the more I liked it.

Orange color. Thiny headed. Aroma is hoppy but less than expected. Flavour is malty, floral ending in a balanced dry bitter short finish. Medium bodied.

Brown/orange. Malty and very hop aromatic from the dry hopping.

adventurous blend of styles. very aromatic

UPDATED: APR 18, 2004 Aroma of aromatic hops and herbal. Little hazy, amber color, off-white head, good lace. Fruity, very herbal, sweet (bit too sweet), dry, light bitter, bit syrupy.

Very unusual Belgian that I really enjoyed.
