Who can ignore John Martin’s ale that our ancestors called "the noblest of English Pale Ales". This unique beer of 6% ABV is the fruit of truly exceptional craftsmanship, a unique technique whereby authentic Kent hop-bells are added after brewing.

Treated in a 33 cl bottle. I expected more of this beer. Nice but improbable. I won’t repeat

Bottle from Mam and Dad’s holiday, France. This is a pale golden beer with sweet strawberry and tropical fruit flavours, spicy fruity notes and a slight sugary, dry finish.

Pours a clear golden with a weak white head that falls back into a small rim that doesn’t leave much lacing. Nose is quite English indeed with some earthy and floral hops over a light caramel base. Taste is indeed a little sweet and surprisingly not belgian at all in character, pretty straightforward English pale ale. Bitterness is low and maybe even lacking so it feels a little unbalanced. Caramel and bread notes mostly. Body is medium, carbonation downright aggressive. Not bad but definitely not overly interesting.

Bottle (330 ml). BB next week Sligthly hazy golden/orange with a small white head and good lacing. Aroma is of raisins, honeyed malt, candi and light mettalic notes. Taste is moderately sweet with raisins, metallic notes, honeyed malt and candi. Medium body. Medium carbonation. Metallic finish. Hard to drink... to sweet/fruity and metallic.

33 cl bottle, simply called "Martin’s Pale Ale", now available in Norway. ABV is 5.8%. Website www.anthonymartin.be Deep golden nearly orange colour. Large head. Aroma of sweet malts, molasses and rotting fruits, hints of spices and leather. Flavour is well hopped, but unfortunately there is an everpresent molasses and dark syrup sweetness in the background, making the beer too cloying to be something I’ll buy again when I have finished my 4 bottles.
