On tap at Draft, Raleigh. Kind of a weird redundancy in the name. I found this to be a competent and fairly typical American porter, with a slight over-emphasis on roasted malts and a too-thin body to substantiate those bold flavors, along with the chocolate base. Decent enough but nothing I’d necessarily have again.

pint at Tribeca tavern. Good aroma, sweet. Roasted malt, chocolate, nutty, caramel. Orangy brown color, small head, good lace. Bitter sweet flavor, Medium body, creamy mouthfeel, bitter dry finish. Tasty enough, classic porter, taste best part, came on strong as it warmed. nice chocolate caramel flavors...

Nice dark brown look. It lacks in the aroma department. But It has a Great roasted taste. Almost a coffee quality.

Serving: draft at the twisted fork in Raleigh. It pours a dark brown with a frothy, light tan head. The nose is nutty with a bit of roasted malt and caramel. The flavor is a bit roasty and dry with some caramel and earth notes. Light to medium in body leading to a diminishing roasty finish. Overall a fairly solid example of a porter, but lacking in body a bit.

opaque brown, dry chocolate aroma, lots of chocolate flavor, touch of malt bitterness in the finish

solid brown, lasting fine tan head, rich chocolate and roasted flavor, a nice coffee character, good balancing hop flavor and a lasting bitter finish, a bit too much bitterness from the roasted creates a touch of astrengency in the finish

on tap-pours a tan head and black color. Aroma is dark malt-coffee. Taste is dark malt-coffee grounds, secondary hops bitterness.

Draft pint at the brewpub; the nice poofy head settled relatively quickly. Tight roasty aroma. Well rounded roasty flavors, too ... bit of smoke and a bit of sweet-bitter clash of the titans going on. Very good and best I had today. (#2807, 4/21/2007)

Black, a touch of red around the edges. Thin but sturdy brown head. Smooth flavors of chocolate and coffee, with a mildly dry finish. A few tiny hints of cherry or apple. Hickory Hops, 2007.
