COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our stout is a robust, full-bodied English style ale. A generous amount of chocolate and black malts and roasted barley are used to give our stout a rich chocolate and roasted flavor. We use nitrogen on tap to create a thick, creamy head and smooth finish

From notes 7/14/03: Pours virtually jet black...until you lift it to drink, and you see ruby red along the edges in the light. Creamy tan head, mainly due to the nitro tap. Aromas are of this morning’s robust coffee. Smells very nice. The taste follows along with roasted coffee, with the slightest hint of chocolate in the background. A healthy 36 IBU for this beer, a mere 11 points below their monster IPA! Spicy! A fairly hefty stout for what’s available in NC. The nitro gives it a feel that I could do without. I usually do not abhor a nitro draft, but this beer had too much artificial "nitro-ness" about it.

Draught sample at the brewpub, on nitro. Pretty, thick jet pour with a lasting creamy dark head and fine lacing....cocoa powder, roasted and lightly singed barley and dried licorice in the appealing if subdued nose....lots of licorice in a fairly dry, vinous and rather too sour body, dark malts help save it and a pretty full and strong body for a nitrogenated pour....some dry woody hops creep in at the finish.

Draufht at the brewpub. Opaque black color with creamy tan head that laced the glass. Roasty, coffee nose. Carbonated, but not overly. Very smooth and slightly sweet. Tastes of coffee and bitter dark chocolate. Finish is slightly bitter and lingers.

Pitch black, long lasting head. A little watery and flat. Just roast and cream and that's about it. Disappointing.

Deep brown with amber highlights that produces a nice creamy tan head and very good lace. The aroma hints of vanilla and mocha, caramel, coffee, floral hops, citric, and dusty yeast esters. The taste starts with a grapefruit and hop bitterness with mild undertones of caramel malts. A touch sour and nutty. Espresso like qualities on the finish. the mouthfeel is creamy with an astringent finish. A good DRY stout, don't expect alot of sweetness here.

DRAUGHT: The head starts out looking nice, but dimishes quite rapidly. Flavor is weak, and watery. Terrible finish. Overall, it is drinkable, but I would like a bit more hops in the finish, and a more balanced flavor.
