On tap at Young & Jacksons as Y& J Naked Ale. Pale lemon colour, average head, light zesty + lemon body, some cloves on the nose, this one hit the spot after some Melb. Shopping, good thirst quencher and not much more.

...draft at Young and Jacksons a while back. Would have rated it sooner, but couldn’t find it. It was called Naked Ale, but it wasn’t served by a naked woman unfortunately. It was a light yellow, cloudy with a pretty good sized white head that faded rather quickly. Aromas were of wheat, citrus, and maybe a slight hint of corriander, which leads me to believe it was modeled after a wit. Flavors were wheat, some slight clove notes and lemon. Low carbonation, medium bodied, with a refreshing wheaty aftertaste. Wasn’t bad, would have it again but I guess it’s retired.

Draught at AIBA 2005. (Masthead’s closed, but brewing now taken over elsewhere. The beer was served at Gunn Islands’s stand, but Y & J’s association with CUB makes me suspect it might be brewed at Matilda Bay now. Cloudy golden. Estery raspberry aroma, some banana. Medium sweet with clean mouthfeel and salty finish. Solid.

reminded me a bit of 3 ravens blonde, because i don’t think this beer tasted the way it was meant to, instead it picked up an interesting infection along the way. witbier aroma - coriander and cloves. took the bardude a long time to pour and was served with a massive white head. surprisingly salty taste, again i couldn’t help but taste chicken stock. but a pleasantly earthy coriander finish which wasn’t crisp but was still refreshing. still unsure what to make of this one but i know that i liked it. this was also the young and jackson’s version

Lightly clovey, with some estery banana flavours, soft carbonation, but crisp at the end, a bit average.

Naked Ale is definatly my favourite Masthead brew that i have tasted so far. Smells like an average German Wheat, looks like an average German Wheat, Tastes like an average German Wheat. Nice long lasting frothing head. Could have done with a little more flavour though. I'll drink it again.

Lemony malt aroma & very pale with slight bitterness. Ah, so it's a wheat beer. I thought it was a weird ale but that explains the taste. Not bad but undistinguished. Aparently won a gold medal at the AIBA but I don't know why.

I am rating on the presumtion that this is the beer packaged for Young & Jackson’s hotel in the heart of Melbourne. I know they bring it in from Queensland, and that it’s a wheat beer, and from Ol_Juntan’s description it sounds like the one. As to the beer, I found it a little too sour and yeasty for my taste, with a cloying, tangy smell. I wouldn’t have it again.

UPDATED: JUL 4, 2004 Faint hazy pale yellow under a small short lasting head. Sour gainy malt with hint of old socks lambic character aroma. Medium light smooth low carbonated body. Medium light bitter and sour wheat beer style flavours. That lambic thing appears in the taste as well. A bit different and interesting but can't say I'd bother to drink many more.
