Poured into a tulip glass. Golden, cloudy with 1/4 inch head that quickly dissipated. Smell: Citrus, strong grapefruit. Taste: Slight hops, followed by light bitterness, little sweetness and ends with the taste of mate. The mate does not linger. All the tastes quickly move from one to the next without any standing out or being overpowering. Smooth Palate. Very drinkable. However, I would quickly get bored with it. The inclusion of mate is the draw for this beer since it drinks as a very ordinary IPA or Pale Ale (both are listed on the bottle). The brewery’s website states that 12 oz. of this beer is equal to 1/2 cup of coffee in caffeine. I would have to drink quite a few though to get enough caffeine for a night out... coffee wins there. But it is still an interesting drink and worth trying.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a hazed amber with a thin white head. Soft herbal notes, a bit of citrus on the nose. Medium-bodied, soft malt, a touch of sweetness. More herbal notes coming through. Sweet into the finish, lingering herbal tea notes, light earthy bitterness.

Tap at the Polk station brewery tap. Translucent golden orange coloured pour with a lasting off white sticky froth. Aroma is woody spicy hop, bark, light berry, slightly dirty. Flavour is composed of semi sweet base grains, woody tannin, bark, spicy hop, little dirt, coffee? Palate is semi sweet, frothy, drying tannin, semi drying finish. Assertive dirty woody bitterness.

"this has been on the shelf the last couple times i’ve made my way to BevMo so i thought i’d give it a try. big earthy hop aroma, maybe some nose from the tea too but it’s ard to tell where the earthy hops end and the yerba mate begins. i was expecting more of a difference. that being said, this blends together very nicely with just a little more of an odd sweetness on top of what is a pretty decent ipa, good body and smooth mouthfeel, and a dry lingering finish. nice beer, but with all the great IPAs out there, i probably won’t be getting one again. worth a try though."

Kind of funky aroma with yeasty notes and sourness. That follows into the taste which is unusual. Some kind of rubber mat going on here. However, after that’s gone, there’s a decent flavor of light malt and lemon and I think some hop bitterness. Definitely has an herbal/vegetal taste. Just doesn’t seem like an IPA, but I guess it is.

On tap @ MateVeza. Hazy orange pour with a white head. Floral and grassy aromas up front. Some peach, tea, and bread. A very herbal character. The flavor is big on the bready malt sweetness. Lots of tea and herbs, too. Floral hops, a fair amount of grass, and mild orange peel. Light bitterness on the finish.

Spicy, fruity, not the most hoppy of IPA’s which is nice with the hop bombs you can get out there. So also not that bitter, long and dry on the finish. The tea really does add a little extra something to the beer, nice

Bottle at Craig’s. Pours clear golden yellow with a thin white head. Aromas are caramel and hay, with a sweet sherbet note. Taste has tea, lemon, more caramel. Creamy texture. Light bitter finish, nice.
