345 ml bottle. Pour light amber, perfect APA head, laced the glass like it should. Decent hoppiness but malt flavours too. Moderate bitter finish. A quite decent American pale ale - easily the best of the Matilda bay beers I’ve had.

345ml bottle. BB 12 Aug 14. Poured a mid amber colour with a billowing, light beige head which lasted very well. Full, pine, hop aroma. So far, so good for an American Pale Ale. Initial whack of hop bitterness on tasting it and with a mildly bitter aftertaste. But it also has a pretty thin body and no complexity. Smells good, looks enticing and very easy to drink but in an unsatisfying way. This could have been a cracker.

Pint at Kahills in S Sioux City. Im a pale ale fan, but this isnt good. Its very fruity, and doesnt have the hop I enjoy.

On draft at the Australian Hotel in Sydney. Pours a clear pale amber with an off white head. Toasty notes in the nose. Flavors of toasted nuts with some fruity and honey notes. Smooth, slightly bitter finish.

A beer the I’ve always thought is comfortably in the best in Australia has been brought back to the pack; by a rising pack or qs from new overloards.

Drank from bottle. Refreshing from the first mouthful to the last. Big hops at first that became masked a bit by the bitterness, which lingered in the aftertaste. Definately one of the better aussie APAs.

Best of the Matilda Bay range along side the Dog Bolter, unlike a lot of other labelled APA’s, this one actually tastes like one. Typical American hop usage, sense a bit of Cascade, not too much tropical fruit like a lot of Australian takes. Lacking a bit of balance between the malt and hops though, needs a smoother mouth feel.

Great to have a large commercial brewery making a good APA. And great to have this in the pubs. Nice hoppy brew. But how this won best beer at this years Int Melb Beer Fest is kinda unbelievable. Feral’s Hop Hog which won the last 2 yrs is so much better. But on the whole, for a pub beer this is excellent!
