COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Brewers Reserve Alpha Pale Ale is very much in line with the beers from Americaís North West Ė assertive bitterness together with a distinctive fruit and citrus aroma - except weíve put a Matilda Bay spin on it. It has a big hop nose with citrus notes derived from the use of Cascade hops imported from North America. 35 IBU.

Had it on tap so fresh there was hops floating in the beer. Iím a bit over Aussie mircos doing APAs but really enjoyed this one.

Great hop explosion, pours beautifully, a great presented beer. Hard to track down, but worth the effort.

Bottle -- Pours a light amber with a smallish frothy white head with OK retention and lacing. Aroma screams out APA but with a touch of honeydew melon. Medium palate with flavours of lemon and hops with a bitter finish. It doesnít leave me as sattisfied as the Little Creatures APA,but a very nice beer.

Light copper colour and nice citrus aroma. Is a very tasty APA with a very good balance. Is hoppy and has a great bitter finish which is not over the top. Had it on tap during a visit to Perth and have to say it was a favorite...excellent session beer.

19 November 2005, Bottled Best Before Jan 06: Appears clear golden-brown with a small head and a little lacing. Medium mostly hoppy aroma and the typical grapefruit smell of some pale ales, some other fruity aromas too. Taste is obviously hoppy and fruity with a light malt flavour, but has a more honeyish, nectary, flowery, and quite bitter finish. Overall very easy to drink and Iím glad itís bottled.

Strong pine, pineapple, grapefruit and butter aroma. Thick, bitter, malty, buttery palate makes this a bit more of a sipper than a sessioner. Good to see a mainstream brewer attempt to make a decent beer, but they havenít quite cracked it with this one IMO.

Bottle, at London gathering, November 2005. Thanks to kook for bringing this one. A pretty fair rendition of an APA. Orangey copper colour. Reasonable ration of resinous hops in aroma and flavour. Light, refreshing and maybe a bit soft. Could do with a touch more bitterness. Not quite up to the standard of Little Creatures but a definite move in the right direction.

Bottle. Quite hoppy, especially for an Aussie beer, but doesnít come close to APAís from the US iíve had, or even Little Creatures from Australia. Nice aromatic hops in the nose, but as with other Matilda bay beers, it doesnít quite cut it flavourwise. Feels a bit thin, but there is just enough grapefuity, piney qualities to make it at least drinkable.
