COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A faithful reproduction of the classic Dark Munich style lager, Dogbolter is brewed from pure malt. Additions of roasted barley an caramel malt creates a dark, malty beer with roasted barley overtones.

Almost opaque dark brown red with large size, medium lasting beige head and some scalloped lace rings. Faint roast malt and coffee caramel aromas. Medium lightish body with pleasant refreshing carbonation. Mild roasted malt and medium sweetish black coffee flavours. Mild short bitter finish and aftertaste. My favourite from this brewer.

Not bad. Strong, nutty flavour with a lot of malt. I could do a night on it.

Roasted malt comes to the fore in both aroma and taste, unfortunately overshadowing the delicate chocolate and hint of coffee. Mildly astringent, I like my dark beers to have a fair bit more body than this one, but I’ll live with it.

UPDATED: AUG 25, 2003 I used to drink a lot of this stuff, but had my first one for ages last night and was definitely underwhelmed. A fairly simplistic ovaltine/coffee flavour, little head (or 'few head' as Bov would say), and vaguely marmaladey aroma. I think I prefer Tooheys Old for a good simple malty dark session swiller.

Smells like Vegemite (English Marmite). Surprising good for Aussie brewed stuff. Malty etc. Next please.

The idea of a dark lager at first sounded like a bit of a joke, but this beer proved me wrong. Cannot speak highly enough of this beer. A perfect bitterness complemented by a lasting head and deep caramel colour. Brilliant execution of a difficult style to master. A must try.

Sweet, malty aroma. Looks like a cola with its head on steroids. Tastes malty yet dry but is just slightly over-roasted, nice finish though. Pretty good especially when considering it comes from Western Australia.
