3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
345mL bottle. Pours a dark red-brown with a small and short-lived tan head. Malty aroma with hints of chocolate. The flavour is unsurprisingly dominated by roasted malt. Medium bodied, average carbonation with a slightly bitter and astringent finish. As with the Alpha; nice beer, horribly overpriced.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle (new packaging). Pours caramel, huge tan head. Smells nutty and chocolatey. Some roastiness. Fairly thin body, not too sweet - I had it fairly cold to begin with, but it’s still not too sweet now it’s warmed up to room temp. Ends with a bit of chewiness. Carbonation helps keep the mouthfeel end up clean. A little woody at the end, too. Not really complex, but well-balanced and pleasant.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle - Pours avery dark, ruby under light with a tan head. Rich roast malt and molases aroma. The flavour starts off slightly sweet then a nice dry roast malt (coffeeish) comes through. Nice creamy mouthfeel. I don’t mind this at all!

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Didn’t have high hopes for this, but still pretty ordinary. Tastes pretty commercial, with that sterotypical aussie lager twang. If this is a Dunkel I’ll go ’he’.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. I’ve never been a huge fan of Matilda Bay beers but this one is pretty good. Pours dark reddish brown with a decent tan head. Aroma is of coffee, malt and chocolate. Flavour has a lot of roasted malt and other grains, with lesser amounts of espresso and dark chocolate. The palate is surprisingly creamy and smooth, with little sweetness. Definitely the best beer I have had from these guys and one of the better Australian dunkels around.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: FEB 4, 2010 Bottle. This is an interesting dark lager. Aroma is roasted malt, biscuit, and chocolate; but it has some band-aid too. Tastes sweet all the way, with light bitterness. Colour is dark brown, with a thin head that disappears. Light to medium body, and velvety feel.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
330ml bottle. Thick ruby brown in colour with a frothy tan head - looks great in the glass. Aroma of toffee and caramel with a hint of chocolate. Smooth with a taste of burnt chocolate. Thinner in body than it looks in the glass. Fresh feel in the mouth and overall very good.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Dark copper/ruby. Thick tan head, nice and creamy.
Toasty malt dominated aroma, almost roasted. Quite sweet though, there’s definitely some toffee and caramel. It’s all quite subtle though.
Flavour is mostly roasted malt. Again, its quite sweet. No bitterness, very little hops.
Good creamy carbonation.
