Draught in Sydney (served very cold). An above average Aussie golden lager but that’s not saying much is it? Sweet malts, some citrus and a trace of hop bitterness on the nose and tongue. Pale yellow pour with smallish white head. Light-medium bodied. Somewhat watery texture.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 madquacker (949) - Canberra ACT, AUSTRALIA - APR 21, 2013
There are some biscuity malts here with an over lay of citrus fruits. Head dissipates very quickly. Still is a bit of water there amongst the biscuits and malt.
1.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 varanid99 (244) - AUSTRALIA - FEB 15, 2013
Light gold pour, thick off white head. Very heavily carbonated. Sort of smells like generic pale lager, a bit malty but not much else. Some sweetness, not much else, but ends with nasty dry bitter finish. Not good.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Bif (1023) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - FEB 5, 2013
Bottle- Pours a bright golden color with a small head that fades to no real lacing. Mild aroma of fruit and a bit of malt sweetness. Taste is a bit bland with some malt sweetness and bit of fruit. Mild bitterness and a clean finish. Light body, a bit crisp and smooth. A non-offensive Golden Ale.
1.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 Stew41 (1572) - Woodend, AUSTRALIA - FEB 3, 2013
Is there any worse crime in the beer world? Trail blazing craft brewer sells to a major (nothing wrong with that) but fails, progressively, to maintain its rep and instead gets good at churning out bland beer. How about some respect for the brand and reputation? This is styled as a golden but it might as well be a low carb PL. No flavours to speak of, just the faintest nip of honey and Asahi-like dry finish.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Pyobon (728) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - JAN 12, 2013
(Bottle) Clear amber, no head. Subtle, quite peasant sweet fruity aroma. Light body quite well carbonated. Tangy fruity foretaste with reasonable bitterness in the finish. Drinkable, peasant, unremarkable.
1.9 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 KeefOz (471) - Tarragindi, AUSTRALIA - JAN 8, 2013
UPDATED: JAN 9, 2013 Poured a clear golden amber colour with a thin white bubbly head that diminished quickly and didn’t lace well. Moderate carbonation. Aroma of malt and gingery spices. Taste initially sweetish followed by a sharp unpleasant bitterness. Light body. Short unpleasant bitter finish, more like a pale ale. Not for me!
1.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 4/20 ALLOVATE (2098) - Butler, AUSTRALIA - DEC 26, 2012
With the debate raging about macro’s baring the craft name comes this sad example of WTF? I don’t get it at all - No advertising behind it unless I did miss something, I don’t know..., maybe that last six months of my life! But here it is.., the heat of Summer has set in and amongst the shoddy lengths of ginger beers, apple juice ciders and alcoholic ’pear’ oh god knows what they are!? comes a...., welll, beer!? Odd!! From a bottle you need an opener to rid the cap its seal comes a beer with a typical unassuming aroma. Whilst citric it is also tinny and slightly plastic. In the glass it does look good. Sunny amber and sparkling with a good level of carbonation holding a bit of fluff aloft. Palate is non-com. Soppy, soapy and mellow with a generous citric blend that does nothing to excite. Low bitterness, low hop, saggy straw and minimal malt notes with a gassy finish that left me belching and in need of ketchup with my chips - and a strafing tab of Mylanta. Just a huge question mark on this one and another to fade into extinction. I’m usually a happy chappy and yet this one just made me..... (34,5cL, no date stamp, Dan Murphy’s, Currambine)
