2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Lite generic cola clear colour with a medium shortish lasting tan head. Bandaid and candy sugar with light roasted malt aroma. Thin to watery soft medium carbonated palate. Medium sweet toffee and caramel and light hoppy bitterness flavours. Medium strong slightly acrid bitter roasted malt aftertaste. I’m finding it hard to get past the wastery aspect of this beer and it reminds me too much of Toohey’s OLD to take too seriously

3.1 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottled- Excellent initial head but light retentation.. Not a lot of lacing. Beer is a coppery red colour. Sweet caramel taste which i thought lasted all the way through. I totally enjoyed this beer. It is Matilda bays best effort but i have not had the acclaimed and elusive Dog Bolter.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
I don’t mind this drop at all, but it masquerades as a nice balanced beer. It isn’t, it’s more simplistic individual tastes mixed together in a blender. No smooth transitions between sensations, pretty basic stuff.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Gentle malt nose. Deep copper with a creamy head and mouthfeel. Continuing gentle malt flavours giong down. A bit thin, but not bad.

Nice to look at but pretty bland. Quite sweet. A good effort nevertheless.

2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Deep rusty reddish brown; very attractive. Malt driven nose, a little old fashion. Broad palate feel, hurt by excessive fizz. Some malt and hop action, a touch metallic (maybe a tad stale?). To be honest not much wrong but lacks defining character.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
330 ml bottle. Brown-amber beer, thick yellowish head. Sweet caramel and toffee aroma, some brown sugar. Flavour is very malty. A bit of spiciness on the finish mingling with the sweet caramel malts.

2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
3 May 05 - Simple fruity berry and light malt aroma. Surprising it is a red colour and clear, with low dissipating head and low lacing. Simple lightly sweet malt and a big simple hop flavour. Light bitter ness, but biting finish (cloying Pride of Ringwood hops) and a bit thin. Overall a bit too bland.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
On tap at the London Tavern, Richmond (Melbourne): Quite drinkable. Nice copper taste on entry to the mouth and a bitter aftertaste without being too harsh. An easy drinking beer that went down well on a 10 degree day just before heading to the G to see the Tigers whip the Bombers.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Unbalanced Australian Vienna. It’s certainly red, or at least an unusually intense ruddy brown. Short diminishing head. The aroma is sweet, dominated by crystal malts, with toffee notes and some fruity esters. Blimey, it’s malty - very sweet and toffee-like at first sip, with the Hersbrucker bitterness coming through very late in the swallow as a rather metallic intrusion. Didn’t find this terribly balanced - too sweet and syrupy initially, with the hops providing a jarring note at the end. Kudos to Matilda Bay for the experiment but this doesn’t work for me.
