2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
After the last two beers I must admit I was dreading this one! As it ends up all that worry was for nothing! This Dark Lager delivered exactly what it promised on the label. A deep copper brown color, the aroma was malty with a hint of roasted cocoa, the mouth feel was medium and the flavors were as advertised, subtle chocolate notes and hints of coffee and hops. This is a great introductory lager for those who are curious about the world of darker beers and a great one for those who want a lager to go with a lighter meal without overpowering it.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
From 330 ml bottle. Pours a clear burnished bronze with a one finger off-white head and moderate carbonation. Aromas are pretty light, but some caramel, noble hops and a touch of smoke come through. Taste is similar, although light chocolate and vanilla notes are present at the end. Clean finish with a gentle sweet aftertaste. Not bad at all.

2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
BB 03/05/2014. Poured a translucent light brownish red colour (a bit like cola) with a 5mm light beige foamy head that diminished quickly and laced poorly in spots. Carbonation low with medium sized bubbles. I though I got a wiff of smoke but that was short lived, aroma mostly sweet caramel. Taste of roasted grain although not over-done; bit of sweetness and no bitterness. Light body, a bit watery. Smooth, no real flavour to it, easy to drink. Where’s the smoke? Nothing special.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle - pours reddish brown with a beige head. Not much of an aroma, some roast choc malt, with a caramel sweetness. Subtle toasted malt up front then a dry slightly choc lately finish. Mouthfeel is a bit thin.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Browny colour with unimpressive off-white head. Faint aromas of slightly burnt caramel and maybe a touch of coffee. Flavours of dark malt, nuts and a little coffee. Not too bad for a dunkel, but I wanted the promised chocolate and the implied smoke from the name. Oh well.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours dark brown with a thin head, tastes slightly of coffee. Not the strongest favoured dark beer, but it’s quite smooth and pleasant.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Appearance: Dark red-brown with a fluffy white head that. Small lacing.
Aroma: Faint caramel and toffee, hints of toast and chocolate.
Taste: Malt-forward, some biscuit and toast notes. Dark chocolate and coffee, some dried fruit and caramel. A little bit nutty and slightly sweet. Medium bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body, but counteracted by the medium-low carbonation.
Overall: Not bad, but has room for improvement. It feels like it needs to be "beefed up" a notch, and then it would shine.
