Commercial Description:
The 'Smoky Bishop' is a regal beer, resounding with dense and lush chocolate and coffee notes. As indicated, this beer is based on the dark lagers of Munich, Germany and is, as far as the brewers are concerned, a rewarding and hedonistic beer.

330ml bottle. Dark brown copper bronze in colour with a non existent head. Loose thin bubbles stick to the edge of the glass and aroma of chocolate intermingled with hinst of coffee come through.Tasty enough with burnt malt flavours dominating.

Bottle - Clear dark amber with thin beige head. Low to medium carbonation. Thin to Medium body.. Sweet, malty caramel background. Lightly hopped. Watery finish. I didn’t get any of the lush chocolate and coffee notes mentioned in the description. Maybe just a hint of dark roasted malts. Reading through other comments it would appear this beer may be inconsistent.

I was worried when the head flowed out of the bottle a little, but there was nothing wrong with it. This is a very nice, very subtle, dark lager. The smokey flavour is very light and is complimented by some tasty porter-esque chocolatey malts. Nothing is too heavy or sticks out harshly, and the finish is pleasant. It was not quite what I was expecting but I would imagine this beer is very true to the style, and is surprisingly quite refreshing.

On tap Perth Food and Wine Show, sour and acrid diacetyl and vomit on the nose and on the palate, truly woeful, why serve this at a show?

Golden-brown colour. Vanilla nose with caramel notes. Slightly smokey, toffeeish, tea-like. Fairly thin body with a finish that gets grainy and metallic late.

Bottle, special procurement. Amber color. Not quite a dunkel hue but looks pleasant enough. Lots of rising bubbles. Vanilla-forward nose. Some cream. Sweetish body. thin. Chocolate with metallic hop finish. Solid sweetness is rounded by a mildly hopped finish. Tastes a lot like a cream beer but not a bad effort.

Starting off my day at the Freo’ Beer fest with a light coloured wheat beer, it was great for this to come in second. Not that I have a dark beer bias, it’s just I love the flavour and depth that malt produces in beers. This was a session beer, even with the small sample I received. On draught; poured a tawny, brownish amber with a thin, dense off-white head that left some legs. Dry, pasty and nutty malts on the nose. Lighter notes of burnt sugar, wood and cocoa come in late to join the first sip. Rich, oddly tannic, chocolate malts in the mouth which dry out just before the swallow with a touch of burnt wood. Deeper malt flavours, some peppery spices and a hint of orange peel comes in as it warms showing this would taste better had it not been chilled from the keg. It’s quite light in body and yet smooth in comparison to the Monsoon Blonde, and the finish is similar to the palate showing some good length. Could have passed for a Strong mild as it could easily be knocked back in quick succession. Not bad, now I just got to hunt down the ESB.
