On tap at El Bait shop. Pale yellow with a medium poofy white head of rapid reticence. Faint lager aroma, but only a suggestion. Thin watery and cold. This has the grainy adjuncts that You want in a classic retro. I’m sure there are folks in NY who like this the same way we in Omaha like our Storz. Nostalgia is goodstalgia.

Terrible, terrible sour and stale taste. I had it on tap from the Matt Brewery, so at it’s freshest it tasted stale. The appearance is clean and clear, sort of like water......

Chance to try a version of a once proud brew. Well, at least old time, if not that proud. Pale gold, slight head fades quick. Slight aroma of corn with a hint of artificial honey. Flavor is sweet adjunct, with absolutely nothing on the finish. Maybe a bit of drying bitterness, but that might just be my imagination looking for something. Not a good beer, but by no means as nasty as many of the ratings make it out to be.

I’m not going to say that this is a great beer, but if you are comparing it to a microbrew, you’re really comparing apples and oranges. If, however, you are comparing it to comparable beers (i.e. light american lagers that are dirt cheap), I don’t think you can go wrong with a UC. Would I serve it to someone trying to impress them? No. But when you’re sitting at the end of the dock on a hot day and just want something to quench your thirst, UC is pretty darn good. And you can’t beat the price (if you’re in Upstate NY anyway).

This a very inconsistent brand, I’ve had it when there is definite beer taste and I’ve had it when there is no taste. Cheap, but for a local beer, it could be so much better.

Tastes actually better than I remember it in the 70s before east end brewing folded. This beer has some grain in the nose and palate...although still a weak malt spine, distressed with cardboard tastes from rice and sickly vegital sweetness from corn. A quick finish with no aftertaste, this is a product of the multi-cerial recipes that dominated the commercial lager wars of the 60s and 70s....thank God they’re over...beer couldn’t stand to get any blander or carnalized ....all in all, this is about the best tasting survivor of the 60’s pale lager wars... but nostagia for Shultz and Dooley is not strong enough to make me buy this again.

This stuff makes me gag just thinking about it. I would compare this to urine, but that wouldn’t be fair to all the urine in the world. My grandfather won’t even drink this stuff. This is strictly for bums and poor college students. Avoid like the clap.

When life’s got you down, buy a case of this, get a room at the downtown motor lodge and have at it. Just hope the manager doesn’t have the police on speed dial.
