4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
tan head that lingers. aroma of tart yeast, roasts, pepper and woody vegetation. Starts with flavor of coffee than goes into a subtle heat and finishes a tart lactic sour taste and chocolate aftertaste. Effervescent and light on the palate for a beer of it’s class definitely reminiscent of the Belgian Stout style. It’s much taster than other Belgian Stouts I’ve had. The spices and chocolate really help flesh out the flavor spectrum that exists between tart yeastiness and dark malt.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 ounce can. Pours a deep jet black color with a small beige head. A sweet nose of chocolate and some pepper. A nice flavor: some stout base here with roast and chocolate, light peppers, not really hot, vanilla, cinnamon, almost combines to taste a bit like pumpkin. Quite nice.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A fine seasonable beer, one that competes well with their Coconut Porter. Normally I am not a fan of adding all manner of extra nonsense to beer, but I may have to give up this fight. A Maui beer brewed in the Belgian style with a Mayan twist.; just about as convoluted as ever, but tasty.

Can @ home. Pours opaque black with a medium, fizzy tan head, short retention with light lacing. Aroma is cinnamon, chocolate, figs, dates, and roast malt with chipotle peppers and spicy hops. Flavor is dark chocolate malt and heavy spices, light chipotle pepper notes, dark fruits, light hops and bitterness with a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at the Big Texas Beer Fest. Brown pour with a tan head. The aroma and flavor feature a ton of chocolate, cinnamon and coffee notes, as well as some herbs and other spices. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. There is a lot going on in this one.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a dark brown almost black color with a medium tan head that leaves spotty soapy lacing. Smells of chipotle peppers, roasted malt, Belgian yeast, and dark chocolate. Tastes of coffee, cinnamon, dark chocolate, Belgian yeast, and, chipotle peppers, with a black pepper finish. Mouthfeel is thin and watery with good carbonation. This is a pretty good Belgian stout. I like the added chipotle peppers. Too bad its a one time limited beer.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Canned @ home picked up at 287 Liquor Fort Collins. Pours a clear, deep brown appearance with a brown head. Rich dark chocolate, mild veggie, chili pepper, mild anise, dark fruity aroma. Fairly high carbonation. Cinnamon, vanilla, chili pepper, plum, dark grape, chocolate flavor. I’m not a huge fan of Belgian stouts, but this is ok.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Strong herb filled aroma accompanied by chocolate. Black in color with a thin foam rim. Unique, well rounded flavors of cocoa, chile’s and black patent malt upfront. Undertones of herbs, cinnamon, brown sugar, toffee and other funky unidentifiable flavors. Overall, very complex flavor with strong alcohol and chocolate notes. I’d give this an A rating.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12-oz. can poured into a Maui Brewing shaker. Appearance is that of strong coffee with a half-finger, very uniform dark beige head. Muddled nose of cinnamon, baker’s chocolate, cloves, prunes, and a touch of chili. Flavor is bittersweet at first with chocolate, cinnamon, and agave syrup notes before a faint ester note emerges. The chipotle comes through on the aftertaste with a moderate tongue-prickling heat, but it doesn’t lend much spice to the taste. Silky texture, light body, and low carbonation with a spicy finish that carries for quite a while. It’s worth trying but doesn’t surpass very many of the other similar chocolate-chili stouts I’ve tried.
