COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sure.. the scientists have published essays, the philosophers poems, the naysayers flyers.. but here at the center of the Maui Brewing micro-verse, we are publishing the ultimate in doomsday aloha – this year’s last canned seasonal, Aloha B’ak’tun! The word aloha conveys both greeting and goodbye in the Hawaiian language and B’ak’tun refers to the 3000+year cycle of the Mayan Calendar which is ending. This apocalyptic Belgian-style stout is brewed with Hawaiian chocolate, locally-grown chipotle chilies and cinnamon spice.

From the can: "This belgian stout is brewed with chocolate, cinnamon, and chipotle. It pours deep black with ruby highlights. Layered with roasted malt character and hints of bittersweet dark chocolate clove, cinnamon and subtle peppery notes in the nose." Canned 13JAN13 Pours dark brown with light mocha sheet. Smells of chocolate, clove, burnt popcorn, little bit of cinnamon and vanilla. Taste is cocoa, toasted malts, some vanilla, some corn, a little astringent. Full bodied with light carb and an off-dry finish. Not impressed whatsoever, lately their beers are more and more easily passed by. The only thing keeping me coming back is I’ve had all their offerings except the wit, which I think I will remedy. Not sure I’ve had all the beer from any other brewery not local to me.

A truly unique and exceptionally fine tasting Stout from Maui Brew Co. It’s a Belgian Stout inspired by ancient Mayan culture. That means there is chocolate and spices added. An interesting combination from a Hawaiian brewery.

Chocolatey with a hint of cinnamon but I get no hint of chipotle. What’s with all these beers I’ve had lately promising assorted chilies but showing little or no sign of them? Tasty but not worth the price of admission.

Aroma of chocolate, and vegetables, with hints of dark roasted malts and coffee. Pours a solid blackish-brown with a long lasting khaki head and abundent fine lacing. The taste is dark chocolate, and roastiness, with hints of dark roasted coffee, pepper, and cinnamon. Medium body with moderate carbonation. A smooth mouthfeel. Overall, a very enjoyable and tasty brew.

Can. Pours a dark black pour with a foamy rapidly dissipating java colored head. Nose is malt with chocolate and cinnamon. Taste is rich chocolate, creamy with some peppery spice. Finishes on chocolate malty peppery notes, with moderate lingering. Nice. Quaff Score 8 / 10

12 oz can. Pours inky black with a medium pillowy brown head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is subdued - sweet and roasty chocolate malts and grains with some cinnamon.

The flavor is very off - cardboardy, mineral, vegetal malts with some roast and a hint of cinnamon and peppers. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and very watery.

Overall, I don’t know if I got a bad sample, but this was subdued and off. I really like the chocolate chili beers, but this didn’t have much to it.

$3.20 Bottle. Wine Warehouse. Charlottesville. Pours black with an inch of dark brown head. Smells of chocolates and an indiscernible spice. Tastes of chocolate, pepper, and more chocolate - both milk and dark.
