COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sure.. the scientists have published essays, the philosophers poems, the naysayers flyers.. but here at the center of the Maui Brewing micro-verse, we are publishing the ultimate in doomsday aloha – this year’s last canned seasonal, Aloha B’ak’tun! The word aloha conveys both greeting and goodbye in the Hawaiian language and B’ak’tun refers to the 3000+year cycle of the Mayan Calendar which is ending. This apocalyptic Belgian-style stout is brewed with Hawaiian chocolate, locally-grown chipotle chilies and cinnamon spice.

12 oz can - pours jet black, with medium tan head, mostly diminishing. Aromas of toasted nuts, bit charred, bitter chocolate, coffee, and sour fruit. Thin bodied, taste is cooked nuts, coffee and little bit of lactose. Stout, not imperial or impressive.

Interesting blend of chocolate and chipotle. Wonderful aroma; better than the flavor. Crazy foamy at first. From a can into a pint/stout glass.

Doofgoblin (280) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - MAY 6, 2013
UPDATED: AUG 25, 2013 Pours dark with a brownish head that dissipates after a bit. The carbonation propels the aroma of chocolate, toasted malts, and spices. The taste is similar: chocolate, toasted malts, spices, cinnamon, and faintly coffee. Palate is somewhat thinner than I expected giving it a "dry stout" kind of feel. Overall, it’s easy drinking and the aroma and taste upfront are interesting/different.

Smells a little chocolaty, a little like coffee, but kind of funky too, I think from the pepper. Pours deep black, can’t see at all through it even when held up to the sun. Tastes a little smoky, bitter finish, overall kind of weak.

Mahalo Doofgoblin. Thick black pour, dense tan foam. I’m not a fan of peppers in my beer, but this one works well. The spice is instantly evident, but not hot or heavy. Rather, it’s well integrated with the chocolate and smokey flavors that follow. A little sweet toasted malt in the finish. Better than the sum of its parts.

Belgian phenolic, smoke, bread, faint clove, yeast aromas, flavors of Smoke spice, vanilla, frothy head, dark as night, slick, oily, lighter mouthful probably from belgian yeast, pour lacing, soft carbonation bordering on flat.

Piano key black. Nice tall head, dark latte foam in color and consistency, but it doesn't last. Smells irony (like Guinness), dominated by caramel and chocolate, with the faintest waft of cinnamon. Kinda like the cinnamon brownies I make. Kinda. There's a hint of walnut here that I really dig, and a bit of brown sugar. Nice. For a beer that lists cinnamon, chipotle, and chocolate as ingredients, this doesn't taste much like cinnamon, chipotle, and chocolate. There's a vague cola-like cinnamon spice note, even vaguer smokiness, and somehow less chocolate than an ordinary stout. Mostly this tastes like liquorice – molasses, dates, cola, anise – which is no bad thing, not at all. But it doesn't do, as they say, what it says on the tin. The texture is a bit thin and bubbly as well, and that, combined with the oddly spiced flavor, makes me feel like this is less a great stout and more like a good (but weird) whisky and cola. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

black with a thin mocha head, poor retention and no lacing. chocolate, earthy vegetables, toast, ...seaweed? i get hints of something that reminds me of the sea. medium bitter, light sweet, umami. medium body, thin feel, fine and tingly carb. very little presence. it makes me think of a stout that somebody watered down.

Chocolate and cinnamon aromas are present. Dark black color with minimal tan foam. The taste is sweet up front which gives way to mild bitterness and has some very light lingering spice to it. The body is a little thin but slick on the palate
