COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sure.. the scientists have published essays, the philosophers poems, the naysayers flyers.. but here at the center of the Maui Brewing micro-verse, we are publishing the ultimate in doomsday aloha – this year’s last canned seasonal, Aloha B’ak’tun! The word aloha conveys both greeting and goodbye in the Hawaiian language and B’ak’tun refers to the 3000+year cycle of the Mayan Calendar which is ending. This apocalyptic Belgian-style stout is brewed with Hawaiian chocolate, locally-grown chipotle chilies and cinnamon spice.

This what i describe as a’’flat cocacola’’ beer. Looks beautiful. Pretty tight on the nose. Taste is however packed with flavour. Distinct charred notes. Smooth finish with a slight bitterness. Medium bodied.

"Belgian Stout" should really be a category here on RB. 12oz can picked up at Bier Thirty in Bown over the weekend... Poured into my HotD goblet. 1/2" dark brown head dies back very quickly leaving little in the way of a head or a cap... the brew is black. The nose is pretty full.. dark chocolate, light roast malt, some lesser cinnamon and something that I guess is chipotle.. slightly smokey and possibly chili’eque. Not much in the way of any thing contributed from any Belgian yeast... a bit of clovey phenols, but I could be confusing that for the cinnamon.. Dark malt/chocolate deliver the main palate punch... cinnamon is fighting to stay afloat, the chipotle has an even more difficult time.. the chili only shows a a minor smokiness. Body is a medium/light with a light carbonation and a light carbonation... sorta silky on the palate... Despite my above negatives, this is a pretty decent beer... It just needs more of everything in the aroma and flavor to take it to the next level.

Pours black with a light brown creamy, rocky head with little lacing. Aromas of dark chocolate, toasted nut, peppers and hints of coconut. Smooth flavors with a fairly medium body but a bit thin and watery.

12 oz can - pours jet black, with medium tan head, mostly diminishing. Aromas of toasted nuts, bit charred, bitter chocolate, coffee, and sour fruit. Thin bodied, taste is cooked nuts, coffee and little bit of lactose. Stout, not imperial or impressive.

Canned @ home picked up at 287 Liquor Fort Collins. Pours a clear, deep brown appearance with a brown head. Rich dark chocolate, mild veggie, chili pepper, mild anise, dark fruity aroma. Fairly high carbonation. Cinnamon, vanilla, chili pepper, plum, dark grape, chocolate flavor. I’m not a huge fan of Belgian stouts, but this is ok.

Can @ home. Pours opaque black with a medium, fizzy tan head, short retention with light lacing. Aroma is cinnamon, chocolate, figs, dates, and roast malt with chipotle peppers and spicy hops. Flavor is dark chocolate malt and heavy spices, light chipotle pepper notes, dark fruits, light hops and bitterness with a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.

Very tasty Belgian stout. Unique flavors that compliment the aromas. Let me turn down the thermostat and enjoy.

12oz can. Poured a dark black color with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted chocolates, dark malts, touch of dried fruits, pepper notes, cinnamon and a little cocoa. Flavor is roasted notes, malts, touch of light pepper heat in there, with cinnamon and a long lasting chocolate notes. Not nearly as enjoyable as I had hoped, but okay.

Can from Darby’s Liquor Store, Vancouver
Black color with brown compact head. Aroma of dark chocolate and cocoa nibs, then roasted malt, and some vanilla. The mouthfeel is dry and thinner than one would expect; the roasted malt and dark chocolate flavor is decent, with a very light chili/spicy touch, but also some disapproved salty liquorice in the end.
Nothing exciting.

Great up front; thins out and dries out too much toward the finish. Chocolate flavors are on the weak side. Clove is a bit overdone. Chilies and cinnamon are nicely far in the background. I like the chocolate + chilies + cinnamon interplay, but I’m not so sure about the clove and the Belgian yeast. They just seem to be out of place and conflicting. Aside from all that, it’s a decent brew.
