Coca Cola brown with limited beige spotting, not a looker really - just scrapes a 3!
Nose is dark malt, toffee, light booze fumes, spice, aniseed, vanilla, touch of yeast, liqourice.
Taste comprises toffee, dark fruit skins, spice, vanill essence, light booze, fruit cake.
Medium + body, fine carbonation, semi drying close.
So so Belgian offering, ticks the style boxes but far from excels!

(Draught) Pours a murky brown body with a moderate beige head. Aroma of mustiness, plum, light toastiness, cherry, and light spices. Flavor of dates, raisins, candi sugar, faint wheat, and coriander.

On draught at the brewpub (as "Father Damien"), served in a snifter. The beer is a dark brown color with some ruddy highlights. Medium thin light beige head that recedes steadily to a film. Thin rings of lacing on the glass. Rich malty aroma with some dark fruit notes. Medium to full body with a malty character and flavors of dark fruit, molasses and yeast. The finish is malty with a lingering yeast and caramel aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

On tap at the 2008 Strong Ale Festival. Poured a medium and lightly hazy amber color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of burnt sugar, citrus, and fruity. Tastes of the same burnt sugar, citrus, and a little roasty.

Growler pours clear amber with a tan head of foam. The mild aroma has prunes and raisins and faint spicy yeasty notes. The taste is prune-e and raisin-y and fairly bold with peppery notes with some floral in the background. The black pepper corn and floral mix is interesting and gets kind of nutmeg like and dry into the finish.

Head is initially average sized, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing.
Body is dark amber.
Aroma is moderately malty (caramel, cookie, toasted grain), lightly to moderately yeasty (cobwebs, basement), with notes of brown sugar, banana, clove.
Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter.
Medium to full body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, moderately to heavily alcoholic.
Nice enough aroma, but pretty sweet, syrupy, and boozy.

At 2012 Avery Strong Ale Fest. Clear dark amber with a thin light khaki head. Malty caramel aroma with an unfortunate touch of cardboard. Taste is roasted caramel, dusty earthy malts, toast, and some dusty hoppiness. Not very good.

Creamy and frothy sheet of foam over a medium brown pour. Cookie laden maltiness is victim to lots of sweetening candi sugar. Leafy and minty hops contribute more spiciness than balancing dryness, while the phenolic, medicinal yeast prefers to add fruitiness to the mix (pear, mango) rather than having any hard work (attenuation) done. Oaky, bubble gummy liquorous medium body. Quite slick and very sweet, if not cloying, yet managing to propose a considerable bitterness despite the low aromatics. Weirdly balanced.
