India Pale Ale was developed in Burton, England, as a "Super-Premium" hoppy pale ale around 1800. The extra strength in alcohol and hops helped preserve the beer on its long export journeys to India and beyond. The style developed a following worldwide. Its flavor begins with a smooth, malty creaminess followed with a big burst of dry-hop flavor from English Kent Golding Hops. It then finishes with a lingering yet pleasant bitterness.

Big Swell IPA is a fresh handcrafted India Pale Ale brewed with huge amounts of American hops and malted barley...dry hopped to perfection!

On tap at the brewery, Brewpub, poolside at the Sheraton and various restaurants. A few of the Maui Brewing beers were available everywhere on this part of Maui. Poured a hazy amber-gold with a fine, off-white head and lace. Aroma of biscuit, pineapple, caramel and orange. Taste of biscuit, pineapple, citrus, tropical fruit and caramel. Medium body and medium carbonation.

Can. Clear golden pour, frothy offwhite head. Hoppy nose, with notes of grain. Taste is hoppy, a malty bitterness, with a fruity finish. A hint of alcohol. Medium body, average carbonation. Good IPA.

"a hoppy ale in a can. a nice beer...citrusy hops and bitterness all around, with a firm malt backbone to even things out a bit. recommended brew. better than flyin hipa."

From a 355ml can on 14/10/2014. Pours a cloudy golden with a medium to biggish fine white head. The nose is relatively muted with a bit of fruit and some minor floral notes presenting. Flavour wise, this is quite a sweet one with lots orange apricot and marmalade up front, followed by a solid, dry lingering hop bitterness. The palate is quite creamy and the carbonation is average. This is a bit unusual - it almost has a dessert like character. But I like sweet, so I’m not complaining. Very nice.

Gift from a friend. Pours like any other can. Head is thin but persistent. Initial bitterness cedes way to pine and citrus notes. Large amount of hops. Mouth feel is shock from the hops. Not expected from a can. Lingering mouth feel is slightly herbal with constant reminder that this is a hoppy beer. Overall, this could be your every-day go to beer. That is if you lived in Maui.

Had it from the can about 5 minutes from the brewery while on vacation in Maui. Easily the best canned beer (craft or otherwise) I’ve ever tasted. It has heavy malt tones that remind me of Midwest IPAs like Founder’s Centenial or Alpha King, but also has very strong citrus notes that balance everything out perfectly. Being on vacation may have boosted the experience, but I think this would be an easy go-to at the right price. Great IPA that really suits my personal tastes.

Pours a clear yellow. Nose is a balanced mix of fruits, flowers and pine. Pine with notes of grass and fruit. Long, sharply bitter aftertaste. Very nice.

Can. Hazy light amber with a thin head. The aroma is fresh pine with dried orchard fruits. On the palate there is medium bitterness that is somewhat resinous, a fair bit of chewy malt, and a little alcohol in the finish. While the dry-hops come across fairly fresh for such a widely-distributed beer, the flavour hops are somewhat cheesy. All told I am certainly enjoying this on my cliffside perch in Huelo, but taken out of context it’s just an ok IPA.

Pours deep honey color thats hazy with a foamy head. Aromas pine, citrus, juicy fruit, jack fruit. Flavors light pine mingled with citrus and just a light hint of malt in finish. Hops dominate. High bitter, low sweet, medium dry.
