India Pale Ale was developed in Burton, England, as a "Super-Premium" hoppy pale ale around 1800. The extra strength in alcohol and hops helped preserve the beer on its long export journeys to India and beyond. The style developed a following worldwide. Its flavor begins with a smooth, malty creaminess followed with a big burst of dry-hop flavor from English Kent Golding Hops. It then finishes with a lingering yet pleasant bitterness.

Big Swell IPA is a fresh handcrafted India Pale Ale brewed with huge amounts of American hops and malted barley...dry hopped to perfection!

355ml can from The Local Pub, Athens. Sparkling orange color with a white head that left lacings on the glass. Aromas of pine, citrus and tropical fruits at first. The taste was pretty much the same, more intense with bitter orange and maybe lemon. Holding the sip in the mouth for a couple of seconds added a nice sweetness to second the hops. The aftertaste was long and dry and very pleasant. The body was light to medium and the carbonation was medium, maybe the only disadvantage. I prefer a more flat carbo profile. A very nice beer, nontheless!!

~Bready malt aroma with strong pineapple notes, some grassiness and spice from hops. Aroma makes my mouth water. ~Pours a slightly hazy gold color with lasting creamy white head. ~Bitter hops, floral and piney, with pineapple and grapefruit, bready malt character. ~medium full bodied, with medium CO2, lingering earthy hop finish. ~Great for hop heads, A bit bitter for my taste but still enjoyable to drink.

Canned 31OCT12 Nice golden raisen ale with an etched surface and a rim of light white foam. Excellent clarity. Smells kinda weak, some pine, peach and a healthy crystal malt sweetness. Taste is bitter and carries grapefruit pith, some dry orange peel, some biscuit and sweet malts. Medium bodied and moderate carb with a dry finish. It seems like a par for the course beer.

3 dec 2013, can. Light orange, faintly hazy, frothy head. Nose is orange and pineapple. Med body and faintly fizzy. Cereal malt with some pineapple and grassy notes. Okay. Nothing "big" about it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: NOV 26, 2013 Intense aroma of hops, noticeable citrus and floral. Hazy amber color, very big white head that stays for some time. Taste is exactly like smell: hoppy, citrus, floral, grapefruit bitter. Aftertaste isn’t as bitter and long as I hoped from the first sip. Medium carbonation. Overall: nice one. The floral tastes may put off some, but I think it gives more character to the beer.
