India Pale Ale was developed in Burton, England, as a "Super-Premium" hoppy pale ale around 1800. The extra strength in alcohol and hops helped preserve the beer on its long export journeys to India and beyond. The style developed a following worldwide. Its flavor begins with a smooth, malty creaminess followed with a big burst of dry-hop flavor from English Kent Golding Hops. It then finishes with a lingering yet pleasant bitterness.

Big Swell IPA is a fresh handcrafted India Pale Ale brewed with huge amounts of American hops and malted barley...dry hopped to perfection!

Mediocre IPA, with lots of pine in nose and flavor. Plays off like a pale ale, with too much malt compared to hoppiness.

can from pivnizub - cheers! Golden colour, mid-sized white head. Malty base that supports the fruity hops very well. Resiny, grassy, with a fruity touch.

On tap @ Chuck’s 85th. Pours clear orangish light golden with thin lacy white head. Aroma is lightly sweet oaky caramel malt with earthy aromatic hops. Taste is chewy dark caramel malt with clean crisply bitter hop finish, earthy grassy notes. Really solid basic IPA. Light body that tastes much darker. Pretty sure I liked this better from a can than on tap...

Woah! Poured to huge foamy swell! Then mellowed and maintained nice bubble upwelling. Nice heady crispness. Malt profile well developed but strong hops balances out. Kelp on ur ear!

Saw this in my local beer cellar, it was the last can in there and I decided to give it a go as I had been curious for a while. The aroma is very mild citrus with sweet malt coming through. The taste is heavy on the malt, quite sweet and piney but I didn’t pick up on any citrus or tropical flavours, then you are hit with the very bitter hops which kinger long ionto the finish. Not the best IPA around but I am pleased to have tried it.

An IPA that is trying to live up to the big ones of the mainland west coast IPAs. It does a creditable job in its big malty flavor , but lacks the fresh crisp flavored hops the mainland gets from being closer to the source.

Golden yellow with dense white head. Good malt character with little to no unfermented sugars. Hoppy throughout. Slightly malty but mostly piney hoppy finish. Nice hoppy IPA.

Can. A- Tropical fruits, papaya, mango, piney. A- Golden orange color, clear liquid, white head. T- Piney, citrus, bitter. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, long finish. O- A pretty standard but decent IPA. Tons of tropical citrus on the nose, however that doesn’t translate over into the taste all that much. Pretty piney and bitter.
