India Pale Ale was developed in Burton, England, as a "Super-Premium" hoppy pale ale around 1800. The extra strength in alcohol and hops helped preserve the beer on its long export journeys to India and beyond. The style developed a following worldwide. Its flavor begins with a smooth, malty creaminess followed with a big burst of dry-hop flavor from English Kent Golding Hops. It then finishes with a lingering yet pleasant bitterness.

Big Swell IPA is a fresh handcrafted India Pale Ale brewed with huge amounts of American hops and malted barley...dry hopped to perfection!

clear yellow straw with a minimal white head and retention. subtle citrus - seems faded, peppery, spicy, peach, light pine, some crisp pale malts and herbs. average carbonation, light to medium body - oily, decent spicy-citrusy finish

Ipa esotica e rinfrescante, ben luppolata per un effetto amaro intenso e avvolgente, accompagnato da note di frutta tropicale, leggeri agrumi e sentori citrici che ti fanno realmente sentire sulla cresta dellíonda!

Aroma: Light (not mild), zesty smell of malt and piney/citrusy hops. Mouthfeel: This one is quite a mouthful. I particularly like the oily feel. Taste: Quite bitter, but with a good amount of balancing sweetness in the background. Tropical fruit notes, a hint of honey flafour and nutty touches. Alcohol is evident but not disturbing. Finish: Long lasting bitterness that remains on the palate and down the throat. Overall: A delicious, refreshing IPA. Kudos to Maui Brewing!

US, can from Antenna America. Served in a pint glass. It pours a tad paler than Iíd ideally like in an IPA but it is in the right orange-gold ballpark with a thick creamy off-white head of foam that lingers as well as leaves tons of lacing behind. The nose is a fantastic blend of tropical & citrus fruits, nice hoppy herbal notes also come into play-good stuff. The taste is not as strong as the nose. Itís smooth body is still pleasant with resin, pine cone, citrus and a fairly strong mouth puckering bitterness. A pretty good IPA that would make a great palate cleanser.

Can. Pours a straw color with nice foamy white head. Aroma hints at a huge malt bomb; sweet and sticky. Taste is bitter, no real citrus coming through and an overly big malt backbone. More personal taste than anything, but I really donít care for this style of IPA. Can may have had some age on it, would like to try fresh as some point. (from notes)

On tap. Golden pour with a frothy white head. Minimal bitterness (no floral notes) and some light sweet malt in the aroma. Taste is dry bitterness and sweet malt - no pine, no floral notes, and no citrus. Semi-clean mouthfeel. Basic; below average for style.
