COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
India Pale Ale was developed in Burton, England, as a "Super-Premium" hoppy pale ale around 1800. The extra strength in alcohol and hops helped preserve the beer on its long export journeys to India and beyond. The style developed a following worldwide. Its flavor begins with a smooth, malty creaminess followed with a big burst of dry-hop flavor from English Kent Golding Hops. It then finishes with a lingering yet pleasant bitterness.

Big Swell IPA is a fresh handcrafted India Pale Ale brewed with huge amounts of American hops and malted barley...dry hopped to perfection!

Really nice IPA, even though it was in cans. Loved the 6 we got this in, had 2 each of 3 different beers, bought in Honolulu ABC. Nice big nose, standard IPA grapefruit + pine. Dark, amber, some malt to this, and plenty of body.

This is another in the increasingly quality canned brew offerings. This brew pours a copper color and has a moderate head. The Kent Goldings are readily apparent as this is a fruitier and juicier IPA rendition then is typical of the U.S. Well-rounded bitterness. Overall, a decent IPA, but PNW hopheads may be disappointed.

Pours a pale amber color with enormous white head that retains well and laces nicely in my glass. Nose has a clean, bready aroma with some citrusy hops to make things interesting. On the palate there is a very nice balance of toasty malt with juicy-fruit hops of the usual variety for IPA’s. Finish has even more citrusy hops and again some of the fresh bready flavors/aromas mentioned earlier. Drinkable for the style.

12oz can brought back last week by my buddy Andy off of the big island. Crystal clear dark golden with decent white head that dissapears quickly to a even film that leaves light spotty lacing on the way down. At first pass, the nose is super bland and maybe a touch soapy. Caramel bread, stale spent oranges, a bit of candied orange rind, orang GoJo soap and saltine cracker. It does have some ’creamy’ feel with the carb just right in my book. The taste is better than I was expecting from the nose, but still nothing mind blowing. Light orange pilth with some zest, grass/earthen hops that represent nice dry hopping, more maltiness than I like, and finishes up with some bittering...although it is light. Would I search it out again?...no. Would I drink it again?...sure if faced with limited options or no new beers to experience. However, this beer should in no way be in the 93rd percentile of the style.

Can of this appeared in the Portland, OR market around Christmas time. Colour... golden with a thick white head. Nose...piney and delightfully floral. Palate... a burst of pine, some grapefruit pith and wedge skin, frothy and a long finish with lingering bitterness.Mmmmmmm......good!

A can courtesy of that great guy from Canada - Hogtownharry - Cheers Harry! Light haze on this gold beer. Nice slighty off white head. Light softish palate. Mild grapefruit - orange bitterness. A little creamy malt. Light dry fruit. Quite well joined up. Nice IPA.

Served from a 12 oz can while chilling on North Shore. A full bit hop profile in this guy that leans more towards the earth side with pineapple accents. The bitterness is a bit harsh at time. A fitting brew for the 20+ footers coming in that day!
