COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
India Pale Ale was developed in Burton, England, as a "Super-Premium" hoppy pale ale around 1800. The extra strength in alcohol and hops helped preserve the beer on its long export journeys to India and beyond. The style developed a following worldwide. Its flavor begins with a smooth, malty creaminess followed with a big burst of dry-hop flavor from English Kent Golding Hops. It then finishes with a lingering yet pleasant bitterness.

Big Swell IPA is a fresh handcrafted India Pale Ale brewed with huge amounts of American hops and malted barley...dry hopped to perfection!

Served from a 12 oz can while chilling on North Shore. A full bit hop profile in this guy that leans more towards the earth side with pineapple accents. The bitterness is a bit harsh at time. A fitting brew for the 20+ footers coming in that day!

"Hoppy goodness in a can. Pours a yellow-orange color producing a frothy head and big strands of lacing. Fragrant aroma consisting of pine, grapefruit, peaches and light malt. Mildly bitter, light to medium in body. Drinks quick and is very refreshing. Lots of citrus flavors with sticky evergreen, fresh bread and some caramel. "

Can from CapFlu. Pours a golden orange with nice off white head. The aroma is all hop, very leafy almost grassy. If green had a smell, this would the smell of green. Nice amount of bitterness. This went down very easy. Compares well with any IPA out there.

Can served in a tulip. Large beige head on top a clear pool of liquid copper. Great pillowy lacing. Nose is floral and grassy. Flavor is sweet. Light-medium body, dry and creamy. Sticky bitter finish. Good brew. Interesting use of English golding hops rather than something with a more citurs-pineapple quality for an IPA emanating from the Islands.

12 oz can courtesy of Secret Santa ’09. Golden, slightly hazy pour with a rich, creamy off white head that recedes leaving random spots of lace. Aroma is all hops, mostly floral. Flavor is a sweet mixture of floral hop and malt. Nicely balanced. Substantial palate, full bodied. Very enjoyable.

UPDATED: JUN 16, 2013 HOPS! Holy insert Biblical reference! Can from the ABC Store on Ka’anapali Beach. Pours a deep golden yellow with a fairly frothy head. Aroma is floral, hops and grains. Quite a creamy mouthfeel, and super amounts of hops. Still, even with the bold hop flavour, it isn’t entirely unbalanced, and is impressively satisfying. Yay Maui Brewing Co.!

Can:   Gold, slight haze, large frothy white head, clumpy lacing.   Candyish sweet hops, citrus zest, and evergreen or pine on the nose.   Sweet citrusy hops on the tongue.   My kind of IPA.   Clean on the exit, a little bit of bitterness emerges after the citrus sweetness dies down.   Moderate to full body and mouthfeel.   Good solid example.   More citrus zing than most, and enough of a malt background to carry it.   Good stuff.
