India Pale Ale was developed in Burton, England, as a "Super-Premium" hoppy pale ale around 1800. The extra strength in alcohol and hops helped preserve the beer on its long export journeys to India and beyond. The style developed a following worldwide. Its flavor begins with a smooth, malty creaminess followed with a big burst of dry-hop flavor from English Kent Golding Hops. It then finishes with a lingering yet pleasant bitterness.

Big Swell IPA is a fresh handcrafted India Pale Ale brewed with huge amounts of American hops and malted barley...dry hopped to perfection!

Can shared at the CA-GA cultural beer exchange hosted by alexanderj. Gold with white head. Aroma is sweet malt, citrus, and pine. Flavor is the same, somewhat grainy / biscuity, but the bittering hops are a nice addition.

Courtesy SoLan. Cloudy dark copper-golden color, thin sparse head. Moderate earthy hop aroma, fruity malts. Light citric hop character on the taste. Pretty mild hops on finish.

Thanks to Dansting for this one. 12 oz can served in a shaker pint. Poured a hazy gold with a finger of tight bubbled white head. Nice citrusy hop aroma with some sweet malt. Some caramel malt sweetness, decent amount of hop bitterness. Medium body. Drinkable. I got a slightly soapy taste from the hops that dinged my rating a bit. A decent IPA.

12 oz can from a trade with suzygreenburg. pours hazy orange with a big rocky tan head that lasts all the way down the glass. aromas are citrus hops and caramel malts. the flavours are big citrus hops and caramel up front that blend together really well, this lead to a bitter piney hops finish. extremely well crafted and patlatble IPA. thx for the can ben!

12 oz. can in trade from Snojerk321-thanks! Served in shaker- poured a slightly turbid orange with brown tints, very low carbonation, inviting one finger bubbly head kept me company. Aroima of crushed pine cones, grapefruit, and hops by the tractor trailer load. Hits the mouth with a high medium body, mild sweetness is intertwined with the malt making it just that much more enjoyable, finish is acidic and leaves you thirsty for more. Oh yeah!!!

Solidly dense orange-amber hue, one finger of soapy white bubbles sustains, moderate lacing. Smell is big caramel/sweet bread malts battling with equally large citrus hops, hints of pine resin and light fruit, delicious! Taste is mostly pine and citrus (orange/lemon) hops initially, nice balance of sweetbread and caramel malts soon after, tones of toffee, brown sugar, floral, and grapefruit, finishes more sweet than bitter. Palate is medium-bodied, thick resiny texture, moderate to high carbonation level. Overall, this is a solid single IPA with a very admirable malt/hop balance, the flavor tends to slip away a bit too quickly, very sessionable

12 ounce can in a single blind tasting with 21st Amendment IPA. Both purchased at BevMo in Vacaville, CA. Piney, herbal hoppy nose with some light musty maltiness present. A little ethanol is present retronasally. Not overly aromatic stuff. Mildly hazy honey-colored body with a medium off-white head and good lacing. Starts a little spicy before it shows off its strong, chewy, creamy malt backbone. Some sweet toffee and caramel dominates with some light roastiness. Finishes with a very mild citrus and floral hop flavor that is a bit sweet. Not overly ethanolic. Definitely heavy on the malts. Not a hop head’s delight, but this is the kind of IPA that I find enjoyable.
