India Pale Ale was developed in Burton, England, as a "Super-Premium" hoppy pale ale around 1800. The extra strength in alcohol and hops helped preserve the beer on its long export journeys to India and beyond. The style developed a following worldwide. Its flavor begins with a smooth, malty creaminess followed with a big burst of dry-hop flavor from English Kent Golding Hops. It then finishes with a lingering yet pleasant bitterness.

Big Swell IPA is a fresh handcrafted India Pale Ale brewed with huge amounts of American hops and malted barley...dry hopped to perfection!

Can courtesy of Sparky27. Good pine and flaoral aroma. Copper body with off white head. Medium bodied ipa that has a refreshing citrus orange flavor. Palate is laqored with some chewy orange aftertaste. Thank Eric good brew.

UPDATED: NOV 16, 2008 My Bottom Line:
The raw cohesion of honeyed maltiness, resinous and orangey hop flavors and earthy hop bitterness creates a beautifully drinkable and expressive India Pale Ale. Drinking this on a Hawaiian beach must be memorable.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A large head of foam garnishes the cloudy blond-amber.
-The mouthfeel is quite healthy with its large but soft bubbles and its cushiony maltiness.
-The malt sweetness straddles caramel and honey profiles, but remains in the supporting role throughout.
-The earthy, resinous hop bitterness is firm, and not overdone.
-This is nicely unfiltered.

Can pours a hazy amber color with off white head. Has a wonderful hop smell that makes me think palm tree pine. Very floral. Has a medium mouthfeel and is well carbonated. Tastes like a great IPA with pine, grapefruit, and a smooth sweetness on the back side. This is overall a very solid brew.

Can. Pours a cloudy amber with a 1 finger head. Nose is sweet malt and floral hops. Palate is citrus – grapefruit and orange with a touch of pine in the finish. Medium mouth feel with splotchy lacing. Not bad, and you gotta love that it’s in a can.

Pours golden orange with sticky lacing. Aroma is a mix of floral and citrus. Taste is well balanced between hoppiness and malt. The citrus comes through well.

Bottle courtesy of hopdog in trade. Thanks!
Pours an attractive dark, murky amber with a lasting beige head. Smell is nice and fruity with citrus, peaches, and grapefruit scented hops in particular. Taste is sweet and fruity with a hoppy backing to it. Very nice fruity taste of peaches and sweet ruby red grapefruit with a good dose of refreshing hops to it. Very well balanced and super drinkable. Full mouthfeel, slightly creamy and nice moderate carbonation. Add the fact that it comes in a can and this is one hell of a fun beer to drink. Really solid all around. Thanks again for this one!

Can. Gold/orange, with a white head. Aroma is citrusy hops and caramel. Flavor is citrus, malt, and caramel, with a body on the heavy side. Thanks to Foolish_Mortal for this can.

Can: Golden to amber in color. Aromas are of citric and floral hops and maybe a touch of spice. In the mouth it is medium-bodied with a tart midpalate and a bit of added dryness on the finish. Really enjoyable and drinkable on a warm day.

In a can from O’Briens. Pours a hazy amber color with a foamy off-white head. Nice juicy citrus hop aroma, some toasty and caramel malts, along with floral notes. Pleasant American (mostly West Coast) IPA character, solid malt backbone supports lots of c-hop flavors of citrus and evergreen with a light spiciness - quite nice and somewhat unexpected from this Hawaiian canned brew. Medium body with creamy smooth carbonation.
