COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
India Pale Ale was developed in Burton, England, as a "Super-Premium" hoppy pale ale around 1800. The extra strength in alcohol and hops helped preserve the beer on its long export journeys to India and beyond. The style developed a following worldwide. Its flavor begins with a smooth, malty creaminess followed with a big burst of dry-hop flavor from English Kent Golding Hops. It then finishes with a lingering yet pleasant bitterness.

Big Swell IPA is a fresh handcrafted India Pale Ale brewed with huge amounts of American hops and malted barley...dry hopped to perfection!

On tap at Cafe Mambo in Maui. My estimation of IPA just keeps going up and up as a taste more great ones like this. Really enjoyed this one, which seemed to have more characteristics of an APA but still the recognizable hoppy bitterness of an IPA. Almost like a perfect mix of both syles - the flavour of an APA with the more complex palate of an IPA. Rosewater, passionfruit, superbly realised maltiness and great lingering finish. Very welcome on a hot Maui afternoon.

Pours a golden copper with a medium head. Aroma is tropical fruits, honey and malt. A sweet citrus to start with some bitterness at the end and hops in the middle. It’s ok, not outstanding.

Can from Rehills of Jesmond. Pours clear golden with a frothy off white head. Mild hoppy aroma with toasty notes. The taste has a big burst of grapefruit citrus becoming increasingly bitter in the finish. There’s a slight metallic note. Refreshing and easy drinking. A decent IPA, but nothing special.

Draught at Monks cafe Wallingatan. Lasting beige head. Solid amber color. Nice fruity hop aroma with a bit caramell. Smooth hoppy taste and a firm bitterness to balanced a firm malty taste.

Schooner on draught Taps KL. Pours honey gold, persistent head. Lots of floral notes on nose. Big citrus/hops/bitterness taste. I’ve had this on can in the UK and it’s good. Closer to home on draught it rocks.
