The Maui Coconut Porter is one of my favorite porters, so I had to try this ale. Aroma was toasty and woody, with a hint of coffee. The toasted coconut flavors were prominent, along with a mild sweetness that was pleasant and not sickening. It was a bit slimy going down rather than creamy, but I’ll let that slide. Lovely brown-black in hue.

Sampled on Maui. Needless to say this is one that needs to canned or shipped in kegs to the west coast. The batch I tried was rum aged CoCo with cherries and vanilla. Nice marriage. The rum was prominent throughout with the fruit and vanilla playing a complimentary role. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel, and a roasty, sweet finish. Huge flavor. Great name.

Poured by the brewer. Dark brown/black color with a low off white head. Rich chocolate, rum, coconut, vanilla aroma. Equally intense flavor. Moderate alcohol warmth. Very delicious! A great treat!

Excellent!

Tap at the Bistro BA fest. At 6.5% Pours black with off-white bubbles. Deep dark chocolate aroma. Medium body with creamy carbonation. Flavor is motor oil and chocolate. It finishes that way. The result is wonderful in the mouth.

On tap at the 2008 Strong Ale Festival. This one was listed at 8% abv. Poured a dark brown -almost black- color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of chocolate, coconuts, light roast, cocoa, coconut milk, and light rum. Tastes of light rum, coconut husk, some chocolate, and roast. I found the barrel aging leaning more on the subtle side and well done.

Tasted on tap at the Pizza Port Strong Ale Festival 12/5/2008. This porter pours a deep black color from the tap. Small sized tan foamy head. The aroma is chocolate, coffee, coconut and some rum. A medium to full bodied porter. The malts are chocolate and coffee. The hops are earthy. Touch of coconut, little bit of rum. Nice balance. The rum barrel has added some sweetness and a touch of rum. A touch under carbonated. Nice beer. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

On draft at the 2008 San Diego Strong ale fest. I really liked this beer. Black body, nice rummy nose and flavor that complements the coconut well.

Draft @ Bistro Barrel Aged Festival. Pours a dark cola color with golden edges; light tan head with patchy fine-bubbled lacing. Generous, oily aroma of coconut, nuttiness and roasted malts, chocolatey notes; really nice nose. Medium mouthfeel: lots of cola, chocolate, and soft brown sugar, caramel notes; nicely balanced, drinkable amendment to the coconut porter; lovely beer. Lasting finish: chocolate, cola, light caramel and lasting malt sweetness.
