Bier brauen (139), Bremerton, Washington, USA Jun 1, 2008 On tap at the Yard House in Waikiki. Pours a deep, clear black with minimal tan head. Nose is chocolate. Palate is coffee, cocoa, light coconut finish. Medium creamy mouth feel. Very good.
ogglethorp (784), Ohio, USA Aug 28, 2008 Can, thanks to rogueone! Pours dark brown with a soapy tan head. Aroma is chocolate, light roast, light coconut. Flavor is much the same. Palate is medium bodied, medium carbonation, finished sweet. Nice brew, great to watch the coconut flavor blow up as this warmed. glkaiser (909), Seattle, Washington, USA Aug 26, 2008 Black with big brown head. Aroma of sweet chocolate and almond joys. For the most part, I absolutely love the flavors in this. More almond joy with toasted coconut, a bit of chocolate and good roast. Big fan of this style, and this is a great effort. The finish has just enough metallic bitterness to bring this down a notch, though. Maybe turn the carb down a bit as well ABUSEDGOAT (1900), California, USA Aug 22, 2008 Darker colored. Aroma is rich coffee and roast, some chocolate and caramel. Hints of coconut? Sure why not. Medium bodied, a nice porter. mmm///beer (530), Austin, Texas, USA Aug 20, 2008 12 oz. can in trade Snojerk321-thanks!!! Served in pint glass- poured non transparent black when held to a light source, low clumpy carbonation, bubbly off tan head went away a little too quick with little lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, with notes of molasses and roasted coconuts in the background. Hits the mouth with a wide body, malt was toasted until black but not burned just from feel, a hint of sweetness in the middle with cream underneath, finish punches you in the knee if you think you don’t want to have another snort. Note to self- don’t visit Hawaii- will stay at the bar the entire time drinking this. BrotherGrendel (135), San Diego (La Jolla), California, USA Aug 17, 2008 Dense brown hue, thick layer of tan shaving cream-like head, minimal lacing. Smell is coffee and dark chocolate malts, roast and bready malts, light hint of earthy hops and booze. Taste is mostly roasted malts with a good dose of dark chocolate and coffee, earthy hops, a hint of actual coconut lingers on the edges of the palate especially during the bitter finish. Palate is thin-bodied, watery smooth texture, carbonation is pretty high and prickly here. Overall, a unique porter with tones of coconut that accentuate the malt profile without being too overwhelming, very exciting but I wouldn’t drink a whole lot of this at a time, strangely the alcohol seems stronger than it should be at 5.5%.
