3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Huhzubendah (1980) - Washington DC, USA - AUG 10, 2012The beer has a deep, dark brown body and nearly an inch of khaki colored head. The head settles and holds at a quarter inch, leaving plenty of lacing on the glass.
The aroma is of chocolate and roast, with mild vanilla.
The flavor has a big chocolate presence, with coconut flavors subtle. As the beer warms, hints of coconut gradually emerge, giving the beer an intriguing and distinctive flavor. I definitely suggest letting the beer warm a bit before consumption, allowing the unique coconut flavors to shine through. The beer is slightly sweet, with flavors vanilla and chocolate melding with coconuts. This would make a great pairing with coconut cream pie or macaroons.
The feel is decent, perhaps a tad on the thin side. Carbonation level is great and alcohol presence is a non-factor.
Overall, this is absolutely worth a try. I really enjoy trying new and creative brews. CoCoNut Porter is well done, unique, and enjoyable.

Black. Aroma: Caramel, coffee, bread, milk chocolate and coconut. Taste: Nice bitter chocolate presence, caramel, coconut, coffee and slightly hoppy. Dry bitter coffee finish. Very nice porter, not extremely unusual or amazing, just incredibly solid.

Well, its pretty much black, with a light to medium brown head... But it leaves behind that lacing that turns a darker brown at the edges. It has a fresh, sweet aroma that’s coffee and roasted malt at its base, but decorated with some residual sweetness, likely from the coconut. It’s not obviously coconut, though. In the mouth, the coconut really comes through, but slowly, and adds a unique (not sweet) character gently to the heavily roasted malts that seem more like fresh coffee grounds than anything else. Coffee... Coconut. I can live with that. As thick and heavy as this beer sounds by its name, it’s really light bodied and slick, with a great, balanced finish. I love the grittiness of the coconut. It’s like I can taste the fibers.

Nose is sweet, malty honey notes with an underpinning coconut. Also some dark cocoa notes in there. Pours a dark brown with a tan head. Flavour is more of the same - honey, chocolate, coconut and a gentle bitterness providing balance. Metallic notes in there from the tin detract - while I approve of cans for strong IPA style beers where the metal fits in the mix I don’t think it works here.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 zenkis (257) - Ogre, LATVIA - MAY 7, 2013
Pours with huge beige to brown foam, medium stamina, acceptable lacing. Even visually seem high carbonated. Color deep, dark ruby. Aroma - dominant roast, a bit creamy, a bit nutty. Taste - min sweet, a bit sour-sweet, mild bitter from roast, far away tones of herbs - this comes as herbal-spice mouthfeel. Below medium body, thick texture and very high carbonation for porter. Well done hopping but not out of flavor, mild dry finish.
At later stages in aroma I felt a bit cardboard, some beans and pleasant alcohol. Overall - OK brew, but over-carbonated in my opinion.

A nice and smoky porter with just a hint of roasted coconut character.
While I might have liked to have the coconut be more present, his would be a great beer even without that.
Great clean porter bitterness with a brilliant mildly effervescent mouthfeel

On tap at The Birch. Pours a muddy brown with a thick tan head. Smells of chocolate and malt. Tastes much lighter than I expected. Chocolate, malt, coconut, salt, spices. The coconut is done well, it’s not too subtle, but not overpowering either. Finishes with a bit of spices and bitterness. Some mild linger.

Poured into a snifter from a can.
I had this before on tap but it seems a little better than I remember. Anyways, after the finger of head settles which takes a minute or two a slight film of tan lingers. The smell honestly reminds me of fresh cream and a little toasted malt. We know of course that the toasted smell is from the toasted coconut. The toasted coconuts really bring out the taste of the porter but it mellows it at the same time. It's good!
