3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap @ Growler Guys - Portland. Just about black in color with a tan head. Smells kind of like an Almond Joy. Dark chocolate, some toasted coconut, and a mild nuttiness. Good sweetness as well as some bitter coffee and roasted malts. Plenty of chocolate and a nice chewy coconut flavor. A little more body than the regular version.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Somewhere between a 2 and 4oz draft pour at SAVOR 2015’s Saturday night session. This one is very similar to their standard CoCoNut PorTeR. Poured a black-brown color with a medium sized light tan head. Aroma was malty, chocolate, tons of coconuts. Flavor was light shaved coconut, with dark malts, chocolates, coffee notes. Enjoyable, but I’d probably just stick the the more sessionable of the two.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
A beautiful brew. Pours a slick, viscous nearly opaque black with a thin tan head. The aroma is rich and robust with tons of coconut and cocoa notes. Light espresso bean and milk chocolate combine well with a light hop. Rich and silkly smooth with a robust, moderately dry finish. A bit astringent and bitter with a lingering alcohol warmth and heavy coconut flavour that goes into the aftertaste. Great brew.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pour on tap at Mayor of Old Town, thick black pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of nice cocoa, roast, and coffee notes with a hint of lactose, some ash into a slight toasted coconut note, slight metal. Taste was a mix of cocoa, slight coconut, toast into some ashy, metallic note, slight roast and coffee, finishing fairly sweet, slightly dry. A slight improvement from the base, but still could be better.

3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured from a can. Small head, but terrific lacing and creaminess. Not a bad aroma, but the taste is terrific. The coconut is there, but subtle, not understated but subtle. Coffee and coconut -- a good combination.

At the brewpub in lahaina.
Black with a thin light brown ring. Lots of spotty lacing.
Nose is milk chocolate, coconut, malt, coffee, and brown sugar.
Taste is very intense. A lot more coconut. Some coffee, chocolate, malt, and earthy hop bite. Just an onslaught of coconut. Slightly sweet and full bodied.
9.4 ABV and a solid beer.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours with a creamy light-brown head, with excellent lacing. Muddy black body. Aromas of roasted earth and heavy/smoky charcoal. Definite oily texture. Tastes like coffee that’s been filtered through igneous lava rock.

On tap at the brewpub. Just when I thought Maui Brewing’s coconut porter couldn’t be any better... Wow, this is just excellent. Full of fresh coconut flavor and milk chocolate. Thick, creamy body that’s cut thinner with the extra alcohol (which by the way was list at 9 . something % at the brewery). Finishes with more coconut, cocoa and chocolate. An awesome dessert beer, very unique and well done.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft pour at the Toronado Seattle opening. Pours super dark with a mega coconut aroma. Similar to the original, but much richer, and more coconut in my opinion. Coffee and coconut sweet finish. Think I like the original one better. Not a quick, easy drinking beer, but good overall.
