Dark brown pour from a can. Thick tan head. Roasty malt aroma, some molasses aroma. Roasty malt and some caramel. Hint of hop bitter but definitely not the dominant flavor. Better than average brown.

"Definitely not your standard brown. Doesn’t do anything different, just better. Subtle aromas of nuts, caramel and chocolate. Light hops. Medium bodied and smooth. Flavor is robust and subtle at the same time. Bittersweet finish."

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Rich deep brown coloured body with a very thin, barely recongnisable tan head. Aroma of nuts, vanilla, caramel, earth and tons of nuts of all varieties - deep and potent. Medium-bodied; Assertive nutty flavour with a subdued earthy finish and almost a chalky note at the end. Aftertaste shows a good balance of malt, nuts and caramel sweetness with a fig and raisin flavour hitting at the back of the palate. Overall, a decent nut brown with a nice profile, but not too much complexity - not my favourite style, but a decent beer. I sampled this twelve ounce can (in what might be the best feature of this beer is a perfect picture of Lahaina, and for those who have been there, a nice representation of the quiet yet bustling streets adjacent to the beach and the restaurants in town - but still a 15 minute drive to Maui Brewing) purchased from Whole Foods in Arlington (Clarendon), Virginia for US$1,99 on the literal opposite end of this fine country from the brewery, sampled at home here in Washington on 14-August-2014.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Can from Sugaya. Roasty, dark nutty nose, with some light chocolate, and a hint of coffee. Light translucent brown color. Gentle toasty malt, substantial chocolate throughout. Gets earthy and dirty in mid palate. Light citrusy hopping. Thin-medium body. Nearly dry in finish. Tasty and interesting.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly lasting.
Body is dark brown.
Aroma is moderately malty (toasted bread/nuts, cookie, caramel, coffee), with light notes of vanilla, dirt, vegetables.
Flavor is lightly to moderately sweet, moderately to heavily acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, moderately to heavily acidic, lightly to moderately bitter, unclean.
Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation.
Somewhat promising nose (a touch dirty and vegetal, but otherwise nice malt character), and looks nice, but it’s terrible in the mouth...thin, watery, dirty, and very sour. Yet another dumper from MBC.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Deep dark brown under a foamy off-white head. Nutty dark malty nose with a wee touch of charred cocoa. Smooth and toasty flavor with a light kiss of char, some cocoa, biscuitiness, and dark nuttiness. A touch light but quite tasty.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Poured as a taster at local shop from can. Aroma - green pea.... yes, green pea. I don’t know if my glass just wasn’t getting rinsed enough between tries or what, but other people tasting said the same. -shrug- There’s some nice chocolate and malt notes underneath, but the green pea aroma was just too weird. There was also some green pea taste as well as some nice rich chocolatey/malt flavors. Without the green pea aroma and taste I would have rated this higher. Probably will try again from a full can and see what happens.
