12 oz. can from Total Wine, Chesapeake, VA. Dark brown cola-like pour with a short khaki head. Aroma of chocolate and nuts. Taste offers roasted malt flavors of chocolate and weak coffee with some floral hops. No lingering bitterness on the palate. This is an above average brown ale.

A good basic standard ale. Agree with the dark malty flavor as described. First choice--no but not a bad choice.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Dark brown, thin head. Has a strongly nutty character. Low bitterness, more tartness than I would like, though the nuttiness is good.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
"Definitely not your standard brown. Doesn’t do anything different, just better. Subtle aromas of nuts, caramel and chocolate. Light hops. Medium bodied and smooth. Flavor is robust and subtle at the same time. Bittersweet finish."

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Rich deep brown coloured body with a very thin, barely recongnisable tan head. Aroma of nuts, vanilla, caramel, earth and tons of nuts of all varieties - deep and potent. Medium-bodied; Assertive nutty flavour with a subdued earthy finish and almost a chalky note at the end. Aftertaste shows a good balance of malt, nuts and caramel sweetness with a fig and raisin flavour hitting at the back of the palate. Overall, a decent nut brown with a nice profile, but not too much complexity - not my favourite style, but a decent beer. I sampled this twelve ounce can (in what might be the best feature of this beer is a perfect picture of Lahaina, and for those who have been there, a nice representation of the quiet yet bustling streets adjacent to the beach and the restaurants in town - but still a 15 minute drive to Maui Brewing) purchased from Whole Foods in Arlington (Clarendon), Virginia for US$1,99 on the literal opposite end of this fine country from the brewery, sampled at home here in Washington on 14-August-2014.
