Dogfish Head superstar – Sam Calagione, will be our fearless collaborator! The result – a beer-epiphany never before innovated called Liquid Breadfruit!

To celebrate the cornucopia of a Maui-grown harvest, we will ingeniously combine local breadfruit (or ulu) & toasted papaya seeds into the recipe of an imperial golden ale fermented using Dogfish Head’s DNA (Delaware-Native-Ale) yeast. You won’t want to wait until October to try it, but oh it will be worth the wait!

Pours cloudy gold with a big white head. Intriguing sweet aromas, mixed tropical fruit. The sweetness follows through on the palate and a little spice in the finish. A sort of thick, dry malt flavor in the middle. Very different, worth trying, good not great. I’d like a lot more aroma and something more in the finish, i.e. bitter, sour or spicy.

a hazed golden ale with a thick creamy white head. In aroma, sweet vanilla and marzipan, light chalky notes, pleasant. In mouth, sweet malty ale with mineral notes, a bit of fruit pulp, OK. At the REAL gastropub, Zwanze day, Dec. 1 2012.

Slightly hazy peach/orange color with some fine particles floating around and a white head. Aroma is dough, band aid, and a bit of candied pineapple. Taste is doughy with tropical fruits, some spice and alcohol in the background. Soft carbonation.

A hazy orange colored beer. Funk is there in the aroma with a slight stone fruit smell. The taste is barnyard funky but instead of stone fruit. I am getting mostly pear with an apple tinge.

12 oz can. Pours hazy orange with a medium off-white collapsing head. Aroma is fruity--not sure what breadfruit smells like--maybe a little worty. Taste is sweet and fruity; a little tart; finishes dry. Kind of boozy. A little underwhelming, but not bad.

The beer pours a hazy yellow color with a large white head. The aroma has some yeast and fruit notes, as well as some biscuit malt. The flavor is similar. There is a nice biscuit and toasted malt character, as well as some nice citrus fruit. There is a bit of tartness. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

12/30/12: Can, fresh. Color is soft orange, fairly clear, with a very light dusting of lacing. Aroma is perfumy fruits, prickly pear, peach, guava; tropical. Flavor is smooth, balanced fruit forward notes on a bready backbone. Pretty delicate stuff, well crafted. Finish fades with fruit, subtle sweetness and a kiss of hops. Better than expected.

Beautiful golden tangerine pour with a tightly packed ivory head that left incredible webbing inside the glass. Nose is subtle, subdued with yeast, biscuit, tart fruit, and some floral notes. Flavor is semi sweet with a unique sour finish. Honey, freshly baked bread, tropical fruit, and alcohol. This surprised me with the warming qualities. Different. Enjoyable. Give it a go.

12 oz. can from Specs in Round Rock. A big off white head slowly settled leaving spider web lacing. Kind of a copper hue and pretty much clear. Fruit galore in the aroma. That is tasted first and it is complex passion fruit. Rich malts wete tasted after that and then spices. Even later mildly bitter hops showed up. Each of those dominated the flavor at their peak. Much more intetesting than any other fruit beer I have had.

12 oz. can- Pours semi hazy with a one finger head that reduces to a ring. Aroma is hops, piney hops, fruity, but hard to pinpoint. The taste is very tasty, not sure what breadfruit is, but it seems to taste awesome, creamy, fruity, hoppy, and tasty, it does start to become a bit syrupy! Body is a bit thin, but I don’t mind that personally, beers like this I prefer on the thinner side, carbonation is moderately high. Overall I was somewhat impressed, I couldn’t drink this all night, but it is refreshing for a change of pace, I do wish the taste would have lived up to the hoppy aroma!
