COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dogfish Head superstar – Sam Calagione, will be our fearless collaborator! The result – a beer-epiphany never before innovated called Liquid Breadfruit!

To celebrate the cornucopia of a Maui-grown harvest, we will ingeniously combine local breadfruit (or ulu) & toasted papaya seeds into the recipe of an imperial golden ale fermented using Dogfish Head’s DNA (Delaware-Native-Ale) yeast. You won’t want to wait until October to try it, but oh it will be worth the wait!

A hazy orange colored beer. Funk is there in the aroma with a slight stone fruit smell. The taste is barnyard funky but instead of stone fruit. I am getting mostly pear with an apple tinge.

Drinks at about 6%. Fruity, tropical fruity - passionfruit, guava, pineapple and bread dough - indeed liquid breadfruit. A bit too sweet and cloying, but otherwise a nice aside.

From a can. Pours clear gold with thin white head. Light body and high carbonation. Tastes like grapefruit, pears, and raspberry. Smells like pears, grapes, and kiwi.

Pours a copper orange color with a finger of stocky tight bubbled foam. On teh nose its got some sweet tropical fruit punch, sourdough bread and a little creamsicle. On the palate its a bit heavier on the caramel malt than I expected and has a big hop bitterness that really draws out and get a touch of phenol in the lingering finish. But the juicy fruit punch add to the flavor complexity and balances the bitterness a bit. Thanks adnielsen !

I picked it up for about 600 yen from Antenna America. 8.2% it pours a great gold color and has a tropical fruit aroma which is normal as it is made with breadfruit & papaya seeds. Golden ale, then papaya, a hint of nuttiness before finishing with a crisp bitterness. This beer would rock at the beach! A nice mildly fruity golden ale.

Can from Asahiya. Thick pear juice, tropical fruits, hops, and rust in the nose. Golden straw color, fine white head, some lace. Malty, and somewhat harsh initial / sort of balances out with hops in mid / light bitter finish emerges from solid trop fruit. Medium body. Another push the limits beer? Tastes like a really well-made malt liquor. I have no idea what toasted papaya seeds should add to the mix.

12oz can. Pours a cloudy orange-golden color with an off-white head. Plenty of sediment floating around. Aroma has some nice, ripe tropical fruit and citrusy notes along with some earthiness. Taste is sweet, and a bit tart, with a bit of hop bitterness. More juicy fruits coming through. lighter bodied and what seems to be a short finish. The fruits and a bit of spice do keep on going just when you think the beer finishes. I am getting some mild alcohol warmth in the chest, but it drinks easy. Depending on the abv, I might be able to drink several of these in one sesson. Good stuff.

Aluminum can from South Bay Liquor: Aroma is mild with scent of fruit true to how a papaya smoothie smells with not much else other than that for me to pick up on. Appeared as a glowing burnt orange hue with tint of yellow but had a ton of sediment floating around while head was thick at first but then quickly retreated. The flavor has a bit of sweetness in the initial sipping of the beer but then leaves behind a bitter taste that does have a resemblance to papaya, but I have never had breadfruit and not sure how that exactly tastes so I can’t be a judge on authenticity for that type of fruit.

Can at Antenna America. Orange gold colour, creamy gold head. Aroma is tropical fruit, bit citrus, bready malty. Bit weird. Taste is interestingly fruity, get the bread. Pretty nice but maybe one was enough.

Golden in color with a slight haze. Lightly sweet aroma with alcohol hints and light maltiness. Moderate fruit sweetness, like a tirple and a bit of earthy character in the finish.
