COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This red ale, brewed with Liliko’l and Michigan cherries is ruby red in color, tart and refershing in flavor. Working with Ron is something I’ve wanted to do since I had my first Jolly Pumpkin Beer. Years later its a reality. Being involved on this project was an honor and a privilege. Mahalo to my MBC crew and to you, fans of craft beer. Aloha, John Walsh.
Yes, Michigan and Hawai’i are connected. It should be obvious to you know, as you hold this beer, and read this label. John and I designed this beer with two noble fruits from two noble states. Michigan & Hawaii. Cherries & Lilko’i. Starting to see the connection? I feel it. So does John. 4391 miles may separate our breweries, but not our thirst for the exquisite. Hipa! - Ron Jeffries

12 oz. can from Grape & Gourmet. Pours reddish-orange with a frothy off-white head. Aroma of cherry, passion fruit, and guava from what I can tell although there is probably some fruit there that I have never experienced. The flavor is lightly tart but fails to offer much in the way of juicy fruit that I had hoped for. Lacks any finish at all. Meh.

I was hoping for more with this beer. Not much of anything...not good or bad. Amber red color, Little cherry aroma. Very little head. Ok, but would not buy again

12oz can, kindly gifted by beer writer Brian Stechschulte. Thanks, man! Pours a deep golden-edged amber, almost cola colored; off-white head with modest retention and nice lacing. Aroma shows plenty of biscuity notes and a grainy maltiness, with a cherry-like fruitiness around the perimeter; various passion fruit and tropical fruit notes hovering as well. Medium body; moderate CO2. Some assertive bitterness on the tip of the tongue, followed by (again) that grainy wet maltiness (biscuits and caramel) and basic cherry and tropical fruit hints; I get a touch of overt ethanol in there as well, warming things up. Not a great beer, but a basic red ale with subtle cherry additions. Finish shows the alcoholic warmth and lingering graininess more clearly.

Brown red with minimal head. Malty, lightly sweet, a bit of tart cherry, grain in the aroma. Medium, syrupy body. Flavor has lightly tart cherry, bready malts, a bit of earth, and wood. Not really sure what this was meant to be but I’m pretty sure they missed.

This looks nice with a light amber color and a thin white head. Fruity nose. The palate is a mix of nearly rancid fruit flavors and vegetal hints. Not good at all.

On tap at The Hay Merchant. Pours a cloudy copper with a small frothy white head leaving sticky lacing. The aroma is dark fruits and floral. Thin mouthfeel with a spicy fruit and light spice finish. Easy to drink a good fruit beer.

Canned. Pours murky dark amber with a short head. Little retention and lace. Funky aroma that must be the lilikoi-cherry combo. Comes off a bit malty and oaked even though its the fruit. Light sweet flavor. Dry fruit, slightly tart. Light body, prickly carbonation, thin sticky texture, and a dry finish.

Can. Muddy brown red look with an ok tan head. The smell is malts, fruits, cherry pits, hay, and dirt. The taste is sweeter and more fruity than the smell, slight tang, and ok.

12 oz can. Pours hazy reddish amber with a smallish creamy off white head that retains well and leaves some lacing.

The aroma is sweet malts and some fruits (cherry).

The flavor is a little sweet acidic cherry and tropical fruit with a weird medicinal leathery finish. The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with low carbonation.

Overall, it’s a bit subdued but a decent fruit beer.

Can at home. Poured a deep amber with little-to-no head. Cherries, tea, grain, corn, and bread in the aroma. Grain, cereal, watered-down fruit, light cherry, esters and bread ending very dry. Light mouthfeel high carbonation. Really boring, grainy, corn bitterness, lager-like and watered down. This beer was a real dissappoint for me and definitely a let down considering the two breweries involved. I hope the JP version is better.
