COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This red ale, brewed with Liliko’l and Michigan cherries is ruby red in color, tart and refershing in flavor. Working with Ron is something I’ve wanted to do since I had my first Jolly Pumpkin Beer. Years later its a reality. Being involved on this project was an honor and a privilege. Mahalo to my MBC crew and to you, fans of craft beer. Aloha, John Walsh.
Yes, Michigan and Hawai’i are connected. It should be obvious to you know, as you hold this beer, and read this label. John and I designed this beer with two noble fruits from two noble states. Michigan & Hawaii. Cherries & Lilko’i. Starting to see the connection? I feel it. So does John. 4391 miles may separate our breweries, but not our thirst for the exquisite. Hipa! - Ron Jeffries

This looked like a promising beer: a jolly pumpkin/maui collaboration with passion fruit and cherries in it? Served in a can? It sounds interesting enough to shell out 13$ on a 6 pack, which means as a parsimonious grad student, I am once again spending more on beer this week than food :( Unfortunately, the beer didn’t live up, and I don’t particularly look forward to drinking the other 4 I have left. For the price, I was expecting some yummy sour organisms in there. Instead, it’s a watery, lightly fruity cloudy brown wash with no head. Reminds me of a roggenbier I once had; not very exciting. Looks like iced tea. Smells like metallic grass with some passion fruit.. Tastes the same with a touch of fruit, watery. Bitter, metallic, lightly sour aftertaste. This is a beer to give to those I don’t particularly care for.

From tap at the Beachwood BBQ. Pours hazy orange to brown with a small white head. Aroma is toasted malty and light phenolic. Sweet, toasted malty and mild citric. Smooth fruity and crisp hoppy. Bitter and light toasted into the finish.

Cloudy amber with a cream head. Nose is cherries, tart, fruit, and faintly sour. Nice palate, cherry, tart, heavy fruit, earth, and a smooth finish.

A cloudy, muddy red ale. The nose is very fruity, in a confused, over-ripe sort of way. It also contains a little wet tobacco maltiness. In the mouth there is a mass of fruit again with a good lilikoi tartness and a fat, weird sort of cherry flavour. Very dense. It’s vaguely unpleasant for me.

On draft. Wasn’t really tasting the intricacies of this one. It was slightly spicy, a bit of a brown ale. Nothing too special.

Can into a cervoise. Ordered online. Some fruit. Cherry, mostly. A bit of fruit tannin. A bit of slightly-harsh malt. Finish is rough.

(Draught) Pours a cloudy orange-brown body with a medium off-white head. Aroma of nuts, roasted grain, cherries, pineapple, bread, and passion fruit. Flavor of passion fruit, nuts, caramel, cherries, citrus, and toasted grain.

Cloudy red brown with no head or lacing. Funky nose with strawberry passion fruit and barnyard sour cherry notes. Medium body. Bitter cherry with lightly tart acidic funky finish. More bitter than it should be just from hops probably the passion fruit showing through. Interesting, glad I got a can off an buddy and didn’t buy a sixer.

Sampled on tap at PIB, pours a murky orangey amber with a small beige head. Aroma of funk, slight tartness and wheat. Flavour is like a wheat beer, very muddled with some slight sour fruits and other murky flavours. A weird random mess full of muddled flavours. Not so good.
