Maui Brewing Smoked Rye Pale Ale

GABF 09. POurs a light bright amber with a thin lasting off white head. Aroma is nicely smokey- not overly done- barbecue, smoked meats, light campfire- some cold smoked fish, good earthy spicy rye and nice hops. Flavor is earthy, rye with medium to low smoke, good herbal and lightly floral hops, toast, light sweetness, and a clean smokey and bitter finish. I was really diggin this for some reason.

Light amber color. A bit of smoked cheddar in the nose along with some citrusy hops - which really isnt a good combo, IMO. Mouth switches back and forth between hops and smoke. Slightly bitter finish. The beer is well made, but I will never like this style. I just don’t see how a pale ale and smoke can go together.
