2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 Spiesy (2338) - Sydney, Greater London, AUSTRALIA - AUG 2, 2004
Cask Conditioned, at The Crosse Keys, in The City. Golden body with a white sudsy head. Bitter with a white rose perfume to it. Slight bitter sweet but nice enough. Chris_o joins in the cheeking rating session on the eve of the GBBF 2004.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 DanielBrown (3166) - Birmingham (via Leicester), West Midlands, ENGLAND - JUL 24, 2004
Hand pulled at the Anchor, Birmingham. A sort of rustic yellow colour, with a sticky head and subsequent lacing. Rather nice this, bitter, murky citrus, with a good hoppy finish, which is pronounced (as it should be). A sort of mulchy, mushy flavour to the hops, rather than freshness, but still good. Medium length finish.

Pale straw colour. Faint hoppy aroma. Rather malty for a summer ale nd short of zing. OK but, overall, slightly bland and lacking in character. Not that crisp for a quaffer. Cask (handpump), Lord Moon of the Mall, Whitehall, London SW1.

Cask Conditioned at The Falkland Arms, Gt.Tew. Yellow gold with thin white head. Light hoppy summer beer, but lacking too much character. Some ashy tea notes with a perfumed overlay. Bitter but thin finish.
3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 SilkTork (4898) - Rochester, Kent, United Kingdom, WALES - AUG 31, 2003
Cask, Rose's, Woolwich. Colour is midway between gold and bitter. And the flavour is also somewhere between the two styles, but in a muddled way rather than anything more interesting. The aroma is pleasantly citric, but the taste is a muddy mix of delicate floral citric tones and the darker orange notes of a bitter. Finish is quite tangy. Not sure about this one.

Not Mauldon's best. On the lighter side of the "golden" range, with yellow edges. An aroma of brewed tea, with dull tea flavors. A titch of fruitiness emerges but this is unremarkable. (on gravity cask, 2003 Charlbury Beer Festival, Oxon)
