Cask - The Murderers, Norwich. Small & creamy, lasting tan head; opaque dark brown body. Roasted malts and a bit of dark chocolate on the aroma. Quite roasty on the tongue too with a burnt toast bitterness, a hint of a dark fruit tang. Lingering finish and a soft textured palate; on the lighter side of medium in terms of body.

11th November 2007. On tap at the much missed free house of the Sun Inn - Kelvedon. Dark brownish red beer. Very mild porter, has some body but is free of bitterness and toastiness.

Gravity at the Bree Louise, London. Porter-like appearance with a slight brown tinge to the head. Scent is rather like strawberry jelly with some lemon. Not much bitterness or sweetness. Some roast coffee and some biscuit malts in the mouth with a dry end. Quite watery. Middle of the road.

Cask Stillage at the Boundary, Audenshaw 27/06/2009
Fruity slight rum aroma. Dark coloured smooth and a little rich on the palate with a little dryness in a lasting roast malt finish.

Cask conditioned at The Seven Stars, Bristol. Black, red with no head. Really tart and fruity with some unwelcome coffee notes to mix things up. Really unbalanced and forced. Not great.

Cask gravity at Luton BF ’09. Very dark brown with a small off white head. Faint sweet rather indeterminate aroma. Ashy taste with a bitter coffee finish. Not a lot else to report.

Cask in Blackfriars. Aroma is roasty, chocolate and herbal hop, some black current slightly acidic notes too. Taste is similar, quite a bit going on for the %, pobably too roasty and not chocolaty enough, but still a nice drink.

Cask, Far From the Madding Crowd. Red brown, fine tan head and a bit of lace. Milk chocolate and rustic bread aroma. Lighty tart mineral dark malt flavor, earthy chocolate, a slightly viney finish. For my money, this is a mild, and not bad as a mild. Some interesting old-fashioned rustic charm. A bit of bubble gum esters show up late--strange in a beer like this and take it down a little for me.

Deep ruby red colour. Perhaps the rye has an effect, but this doesn’t really taste like a traditional porter, as others have observed. There’s some roast malt in the aroma. The flavour is slightly fruity (berry fruits) and the mouthfeel is very dry. Lightish body for a porter. Finish is a bit tinny. OK, but not really to my taste. Cask (gravity dispense) at Bedford Beer Festival 2004.
