3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 deyholla (3533) - Waukesha, USA - DEC 22, 2010
Growler. Poured a clear gold with an amber hue and a white head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma was mainly pine with some backing citrus and a slight hay backbone. Flavor began with hay and grain but was overtaken by a strong pine finish with just a bit of citrus in there as well.

On Tap at the brewery. Pint glass of Rich copper amber clear liquid with a very thin head. Nose is Full of Hop delights. First sip is floral with that initial hop bitterness of an ipa but so much more broad and delightful. Mid taste is tangy and tantalizing. Body is fluid neither silky nor thin but rather medium. Finish is an explosion of good bitters. Very nice Double IPA. exactly what I’m looking for in the style in general.

I was pleasantly surprised when I tried this gem at last year’s Cincy Winter Beerfest! I visited their stand more than once that night! In fact, by the end of the evening, there was a large crowd gathered around their stand for last pour. It had my vote for the Best Brew at the event. The light amber, double IPA’s aroma hints of pine, but the taste is quite sweet. My only complaint is that it is not available in my area (southern OH). I am glad to see that they will be at the Cincy Beerfest again this year.

On tap at the Oliver House part of Maumee Bay on our way to RBSG. Pours a hazed gold with a medium sized white head. Big clean citrus, earthy pine. Medium bodied, needs a bit more carbonation. Nice and malty. The alcohol here is well hidden or lower than indicated. Long slow grapefruit and quinine bitterness. Best of the bunch.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Pawola22 (2211) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - AUG 2, 2010
On tap at the brewpub. Pours a lightly hazed golden colored body with a thin, creamy, off-white head that dissipates quickly and leaves a moderate lacing. Aroma is sweet caramel and bright citrus hops. Lots of fresh, dry hopped amarillo and centennial on the nose. A bit of a pine and floral with a touch of crystal sweetness from the malts. Flavor is similar. Sweet citrus amarillo and centennial with a nice caramel backing. Solid piney, medium bitterness with a smooth caramel finish that dries and leaves a lengthy aftertaste. Light to medium body and somewhat thin at times with a light carbonation. Overall, a solid DIPA. Lots of fresh, sweeter hops with a well balanced caramel. Very enjoyable.

UPDATED: JUN 17, 2010 On tap at brewpub. Pours dark orange with off-white head. Aromas of citrus, pine, hops, and caramel malt. Flavors of huge amount of bitter hops, bright citrus, light pine, and caramel malts in the background. Finishes with big bitter hop punch. A true hopheads delight. Really solid IIPA.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 Braudog (4607) - Hampton, Virginia, USA - JAN 26, 2010
Draft at the brewpub. Nice bountiful head on top of a dark orange beer and throwing off quite a hoppy punch of an aroma. Rich in flavors, earthy and bitter, with a nice body. Best of the bunch here. (#3800, 1/22/2010)
