jsquire (1835), St. Marys, Ohio, USA Feb 1, 2008 Reddish amber color out of the bottle with very little of a fizzy off white head. Malty nose with dusty cinnamon spice. Sweet beer with cinnamon spice, citrus rind, and an almost cherry note. And there was an odd sense about this beer that reminded me of ass. Not my favorite of the spiced Christmas beers. pint_size (910), Austin, Texas, USA Dec 23, 2007 12-21-07 Bottle shared with lb4lb courtesy of Kryptic
Smells like red hots - almost exactly like red hots. However, the flavor is just blah and bland - nothing special. lb4lb (1233), Austin, Texas, USA Dec 22, 2007 Bottle courtesy of Kryptic. Thanks for this extra!
Clear amber pour. Spicy nose of cinnamon, honey and citrus. Taste is sweet but drinkable and flavors of cinnamon orange and honey are all definitely present. Nicely spiced and I enjoyed this one. tytoanderso (1148), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA Dec 4, 2007 Bottle from kryptic. 2007 vintage. Lots of honey sweetness on the nose. Some cinnamon and nutmeg spice with a kiss of grainy malt. Pours amber. Almost looks still with a minimal head. Flavor has some dry toasted malt with plenty of cinnamon and nutmeg spice. The honey sweetness returns midpalate then finishes crisp and dry. Medium bodied with a pleasant amount of carbonation. shigadeyo (1332), Southwest Ohio Area, Ohio, USA Dec 31, 2006 Vintage 2005... I picked up a bottle of this earlier in the year with the intention of drinking it on Christmas. However, I was sick over the long Christmas weekend so I never got around to having it. So, what better time than now, New Year’s Eve?! --
Blitzen pours a clear, acorn brown color with a thin off-white crown and a moderate amount of carbonation. The aroma is earthy with hints of something sweet, fruity, and spicy in the background. The flavor is earthy and vegetable-like with some spiciness and alcohol. There is also some carboard in the taste. The finish has a medicinal-like quality. This beer has a medium-light body and feels overly carbonated in the mouth. Overall I think this beer is well past its prime and severely oxidized. It looks okay, but it does not really smell or taste good at this point (I’m having a hard time drinking enough of it to finish this rating)! Unfortunately, this one is going down the drain...
